Are you following these five best practices to protect your data?

The ransomware attackers aren’t just after your data. They want your data backup too.  Organizations need to be prepared because the technologies around these attacks are getting more sophisticated, said Brandon McCoy, Senior System Engineer with Veeam at a recent ITWC briefing.
“The goal is to get organizations to pay out,” said McCoy. “The criminals will encrypt your data and delete the backup to make that happen. We’re seeing this more often now.”
It’s important to take a holistic and multi-layered approach to data protection, said Dale Levesque, Director, Cloud Data Protection and Recovery at iland. “It’s about business outcomes,” he said. “Organizations should look at acceptable downtime and how that fits with their business continuity and financial requirements. If you lose all your data, how much will that cost you?”

Over the many months of the lingering COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve heard a consistent message from the governor’s office: New Jersey public schools should be open, if they can safely be open.
Yet, we’ve also heard this contrary message: Teachers, as well as others who work in New Jersey’s public schools, are not a priority for the COVID vaccine.
Adding to that mixed message is the quandary facing the Educational Services Commission of New Jersey, as well as other public school districts serving students with severe disabilities. We are asked to work with the most medically fragile population in a face-to-face setting, yet we are still not warranted any priority status for vaccine.

Shots fired in the 2020 Republican gubernatorial primary. Literally.
Candidate Doug Steinhardt yesterday issued a press release attacking his main rival, Jack Ciattarelli, over his shooting stance during a competition they both attended over the weekend.

NJ economy, politics require rushed tax breaks for businesses

Gov. Phil Murphy and his fellow Democrats leading the Legislature in less than a week have rushed through a plan for more corporate tax breaks than ever.
This is the same Murphy who last year railed against the state tax credits that benefited South Jersey businesses and his political foes within his party. The same who let New Jersey’s tax incentives program expire last year and insisted on a hard cap on total tax credits that legislators rejected.
Well, after months of talking with each other, corporations, unions and other special interests, Democratic leaders are finally on the same page — and it says the state will offer up to $14 billion in tax breaks over seven years.
