With Reggie Perry and Jeremiah Martin unavailable down the stretch, the Long Island Nets dropped their second game in a row, this time to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 105-90, Saturday at Walt Disney World.
Long Island is now 2-5, just short of halfway through the 15-game G League season. They’re now ranked 16th out of 18 teams in the G League “bubble,” and unless they turn things around and make the eight-team playoffs, they’ll be done by March 5.

It was another good game for Reggie Perry, but another hard-fought loss for Long Island.
The Long Island Nets showed good poise and resilience in a comeback against the league-leading Delaware Blue Coats - the G League affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers - but ultimately lost, 127-130. With the loss, the Nets fall to 2-4 on the 15-game regular season.
Once trailing by as many as 28 points, the Nets cut Delaware’s lead all the way to three points twice in the final minutes.

The Long Island Nets suffered the first loss of their shortened G League season, falling to the Lakeland Magic, the Magic affiliate, 106-100 Friday at Disney World. With the loss, the Nets fall to 1-1 in the 15-game regular season.
Following the loss, Bret Brielmaier characterized the defeat as a tough one.
“Tough loss. They never feel good but how we bounce back will be the exciting part about this,” Bret Brielmaier said following the loss. “We have an incredible group of guys in there and a resilient group, who have so far embraced this challenge. We will get better tomorrow and we will continue down this path of improving as a group.

The Long Island Nets kicked off their G League bubble season with a heart thumper over the Iowa Wolves, the Timberwolves affiliate, 131-128, in the G League”bubble” at Walt Disney World. With the win, Bret Brielmaier recorded his first win as a head coach after more than a decade as an assistant coach in the NBA.
The game came down to the final seconds. With the score tied up at 128, Elie Okobo, the former Suns point guard, hit a game-winning three with 13.8 seconds remaining to seal the win for Long Island.

Kenny Atkinson makes his first return to the Barclays Center Tuesday since he parted ways with the Nets back on March 7.
Atkinson, who is also a Long Island native, was replaced by current Nets lead assistant, Jacque Vaughn, then after a few interviews for open head coaching jobs signed on as an assistant with the Clippers, a role he played before in his career, with New York and Atlanta.
The 53-year-old is in a familiar role — as a development specialist - focusing on improving all players from Kawhi Leonard on down to the last man on the roster.

The Long Island Nets are Bret Brielmaier’s first head coaching job. For the past five years before being elevated to “big chair,” he served as an assistant to Kenny Atkinson, then after Jacque Vaughn replaced Atkinson, he served as lead assistant in the NBA “bubble.”
Now he’s back at Disney World for the G League “bubble” and ready for the new challenge. He’s worked with a wide range of head coaches in his 13-year NBA career. In addition to Atkinson and Vaughn, the 35-year-old has worked under Lute Olsen at Arizona, Gregg Popovich in San Antonio and Mike Brown, David Blatt and Tyronn Lue in Cleveland ... where he won a ring before moving on to Brooklyn.

The G League is back ... or will be soon. Reports out of Forbes Sports Money and ESPN suggest preparations will begin in three weeks with a targeted Opening Night in early February. And for the first time, veteran players will be permitted to join G League rosters.
According to a tweet from Adam Zagoria of Forbes Sports Money on Thursday, the G League will begin preparing for a shortened season on January 13 with an “at-home” quarantine for all their players and staff. Games, according to Zagoria, won’t begin until February 8.
