Foreman Medals in Long Jump, Tigers Impress in Second Day of ACC Indoor Championship

BOSTON, Mass. - The Clemson Tigers shined in the second day of the ACC Indoor Championships as ten athletes secured their places in Saturday's finals and Shantae Foreman received the silver medal in the women's long jump. Foreman becomes the second Tiger to earn a silver medal for Clemson. Along with the medal and the second place finish, Foreman was also crowned First Team All-ACC as she becomes the second Tiger to earn the honor. Four athletes have earned All-ACC honors so far this week as Daniel Cope was named First Team while Marie Forbes and Nia Christie were tabbed Second Team All-ACC. Saturday's events begin at 11 a.m. with the men's triple jump as the first track event will begin at 12 p.m. with the men's mile. The day will end with the men's 4x400 relay at 3:35pm and the women's 4x400 relay at 4 p.m. Clemson will look to medal in all events and secure the ACC Championship title on both the men's and women's side. The meet will be broadcasted on ACCNX. Meet Highlights In the women's long jump, Shantae Foreman secured the silver medal and was named First Team All-ACC after she jumped a new personal best of 6.37m to secure second place In the women's 800 meter, Gladys Chepngetich crossed the line with a time of 2:06.73 which advances her to the finals for the event Tarees Rhoden finished the men's 800 meter with a time of 1:49.14 to secure a place in the finals Cameron Rose advanced to the finals for the men's 60 meters as he completed the event with a time of 6.73 In the women's 60 meters, Antoinette Van Der Merwe and Aleksandra Stoilova both qualified for the finals as their marks placed them within the top-eight. Merwe recorded a new personal best in the event. Tiger Produce Well-Rounded Effort in Final Indoor Home Meet

CLEMSON, S.C. - In their final home meet of the indoor season, the Clemson Tigers impressed all-around as the team recorded top-finishes and national marks in multiple events. Over 15 athletes recorded personal or season bests as the Tigers inch closer to the ACC Indoor Championships. Collectively from Friday and today, that is probably the best this team has performed, across the board, Track and Field Director Mark Elliot said. While track is an individual thing, it is still a team effort so just to see all the personal bests and impressive performances in all event areas is really good. The Tiger Paw is known through the track and field community as one of the best meets you will find in the country, it's almost like pre-nationals. When you have all the teams that are here, plus our team and are able to record top marks in a variety of events, you know you are doing something good. Headlining the meet was today's middle-distance group as Tarees Rhoden and Gladys Chepngetich both recorded first-place finishes in the men's and women's 800 meter. From the distance group, Sawyer Dagan secured a huge personal best to help him to a second-place finish in the men's 3000 meter. The Tigers also found success in both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams as both groups recorded top-5 marks for Clemson. The Tigers also shined in the field events as Shantae Foreman secured first-place in the women's triple jump as she recorded her best career mark of 13.61m. In the men's shot put, Courtney Lawrence 19.35m mark moved him to No. 3 all-time for Clemson and Jessica Johnson added her name to the top-10 list in the women's high jump as she cleared 1.75m to secure second-place in the event. MEET HIGHLIGHTS After clearing 1.75m in the women's high jump, Jessica Johnson secured second-place in the event and added her name to Clemson's all-time list as her mark ties her for eighth. In the women's 800 meter, Meredith Finley (2:15.74) and Nicole Rizzo (2:18.77) both earned new personal bests in the event In the women's 800 meter invitational, Gladys Chepngetich was first to cross the line with an exceptional time of 2:01.83 which secured her first-place and improved her mark on the all-time list at No. 3. In the men's 800 meter invitational, Tarees Rhoden was first to cross the line at 1:47.38 which is his best mark of the season in that event After finishing the women’s 200 meter with a time of 23.46, Antoinette Van Der Merwe officially adds her name to the top 10 list as she now holds the No. 7 spot  In the men’s 3000 meter, Sawyer Dagan finished with a time of 8:10.62 to secure No. 10 on the all-time list and earn second-place After throwing 19.32m in the men’s shot put, Courtney Lawrence officially moves into the No. 3 all-time spot for Clemson. Going into the weekend, that mark would have ranked him ninth in the nation  After jumping 13.61m, Shantae Foreman recorded a new personal best and finished first in the event.
