The first Roche Bros. store opened in 1952 in Roslindale, MA, by brothers Bud and Pat Roche. Even before the first customer walked into the market, Bud and Pat set the policy created by their parents: treat your customers like members of your own family.

Tom Murray was 16 years old when his professional life started to take shape. He began with Roche Bros. as a part-time employee at the Natick, MA, location with no intention of working in the produce department.

“I was picked out of a lineup with three other guys. They threw us into the produce department,” said Murray, who 48 years later is now director of produce for Mansfield, MA-based Roche Bros.

WATERTOWN, MA — Roche Bros. opened its first Watertown store today, settling into a spot in Arsenal Yards.
The grocery store—which called on shoppers to try its espresso, flatbreads, fruits and smoothies—has locations across Massachusetts, including Downtown Crossing, Cambridge and Waltham.
"Our expansion into Watertown at Arsenal Yards delivers our vision of bringing an innovative food shopping experience into local neighborhoods. This store combines the variety and first-rate shopping experience of Roche Bros., with the innovation and product assortment of Brothers Marketplace," said Linda SanGiacomo, vice president of Marketing for Roche Bros. in a release.

Harvey’s Hardware is the current occupant of a corner that has been – literally – at the center of Needham for nearly 170 years.
The advent of the train line through the Great Plain in 1853 brought rapid changes to Needham. Although the Great Plain did not become the “real” downtown until about the 1870s, the Plain was already seeing a significant transformation as early as 1854.
