israel had said that it held off the bombing for two hours because egypt s prime minister was inside gaza meeting with hamas leaders and the palestinians for their part are denying that. they re disputing it. this week s fighting we know this has left more than 200 people injured. three israeli soldiers are dead, there are reports of civilian israelis dead as well and 24 palestinians killed in gaza and israel is amassing tanks near the border with gaza and called up 16,000 army reservists. let s get you straight to cnn fred plaiken live in jerusalem at this hour. this is extraordinary. what do we know? where did the rockets land near jerusalem and what is being said about this? ashleigh, you re right. it is extraordinary and very much out of the ordinary many in jerusalem. the air raid sirens went off a little less than an hour ago. we could hear them. you heard a thud later on. what we re hearing from the israeli military is the rocket or missile hit somewhere south ....

how to stave off those extra pounds this holiday season. it is saturday, november 1th, good morning, everyone. i m randi kaye. victor blackwell is on assignment today. we start in the middle east where the fuse is running short on the powder keg in israel. this has become a fairly common sight in gaza this week. meanwhile, militants on the other side have fired nearly 200 rockets into israel. israel is massing troops near the border with gaza. they have 30,000 troops there right now and have called up thousands more reservists to be ready. at least 39 people have died in gaza since the operations began, three have been killed in israel from the rocket attacks. meanwhile, world leaders from the united states and the united nations are calling on both sides to call restraint. israel stepped up the campaign. one air strikes leveled a key palestinian government building. it was the cabinet headquarters. our senior international correspondent sara sidner is there. around ....

i m victor blackwell sitting in this morning for randi kaye. captions by vitac www.vitac.com we start this hour in the middle east. there s a bit of hope for a negotiated cease-fire. leaders from egypt and france are trying to mediate. for the past five days israel and hamas have fired rockets and bombed one another, israeli air strikes have taken a heavy toll on gaza and hamas. right now israel is keeping open the possibility of a ground offensive. they ve got 30,000 troopons the border with another 75,000 reservists being called up. now, i want to show you something that played out live on israeli television just a short time ago. watch this. what you re called is called an iron dome. this is egypt s defensive zone system. they re tracking down two rockets. at the end, the small puffs there, that s the signals of success that those intercepters headed off those rockets. so far israel says a thousand rockets have been fired. hamas puts it at about 900. the consta ....
