All right, time. Did everybody get it . Okay if you are still figuring it out i wont tell. But let me just close by saying this. We are so inundated i think with news of mayhem and mishap and war and disease. I think sometimes we forget how much good work is being done day in and day out by a lot of good people who just care about their kids, care about their communities. In your districts i know there are extraordinary teachers and principals who are putting everything they have got into making sure our kids are getting a great education and we have parents who are stepping up in volunteering and helping to make those schools work. So as you disburse one message i want you to deliver to all of them from the white house from the president of the United States is even if you are not getting a lot of attention, even if you are not making a lot of headlines what you were doing every single day is making the biggest possible difference in the lives of this country and i couldnt be prouder
Is, we are a nation of immigrants. And proud of it. Our rich, diverse heritage would not have been the same without the contribution of immigrants that have come from around the world. Contributions that have become a very part of the very fabric of our lives and our society. Millions of foreignborn millions of foreignborn who have come to the United States legally have become successful, patriotic citizens of the United States and we have been the beneficiary because of the opportunities that our nation provides that nowhere else on it provides and that is the opportunity to pursue the American Dream. But part of what makes the American Dream possible is the rule of law. Its our constitution. Its not president s getting frustrated with congress and issuing an executive order to find the constitution, ignoring his oath to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States. That undermines the American Dream. So i listened to my colleague and friend from illinois saying that this i
Said lets try to get to a level Playing Field and that is what u. N. Senator hatch have talked about and then to have comparable measures. And so what it does this tax credit is incentivize investment of commercial projects to create jobs in low income areas. And since the program was established back in 2000, 36 billion has been invested in eligible communities and it needs that little tweak to get to the poverty so i
Holding hearings on fixing a broken tax code and building a new system that works in todays Global Digital economy. On tuesday we are going to have a hearing on how to protect taxpayers from incompetent and fraudulent repairs. Now there are other issues like Identity Theft and taxpayers rights that we will have to examine. Senators nelson and harden have put a lot of time and effort into solving these challenges in this committee will need to take a hard look at the issues surrounding multiemployer Pension Plans in order to protect americans hardearned benefits. This bill takes a first step and i intend to work with my colleagues to do more. Today we have got to belmont shortterm needs with longterm goals in the bill before us today does that. Senator hatch and i agreed to start trimming, to start reconfiguring the overgrown extenders. After president reagan signed the 1986 Tax Reform Act into law there were only 14 provisions they carried expiration states so we have got a lot of heav
