Athens graduate awarded ROTC award

Davis Young, a 2020 graduate of Athens High School, was recently awarded The Silver ROTC SAR award. With it was a flag that flew over the Texas capitol.
While at AHS, he won a four year AROTC scholarship and is studying to be in the medical field. He is the son of Kevin and Amy Young of Star Harbor.
The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution awards the ROTC Medal to foster the principle of the âcitizen-soldier,â exemplified by the Minutemen of Revolutionary War days. This award is presented by an SAR Chapter, State-level Society, or the National Society to ROTC or JROTC cadets who are selected for having a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing, and general excellence. ....

First woman takes command of VMI's Corps of Cadets

Kasey Meredith, a rising senior at Virginia Military Institute , talks about being the first female cadet to hold the rank of regimental command officer.
When Kasey Meredith came to Virginia Military Institute three years ago, she said she didn t know her capabilities.
The great thing about VMI is it pushes you to do what you re capable of, Meredith said.
Meredith has climbed the ranks at the military college in Lexington to become the first woman to serve as regimental commander of the Corps of Cadets in VMI s 182-year history. She ll lead about 1,700 cadets during the upcoming school year. She s responsible toÂ the commandant of cadets for the training, appearance, discipline, health, welfare and morale of the corps. ....
