Eleanor Ernestine Hubele

Eleanor Ernestine Hubele departed to her Heavenly home at 8:08 a.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2023 surrounded by her children and sister. Eleanor was born November 25, 1927 to Ernest and Lydia (Winter) Miller of Carmi. Eleanor graduated from Carmi Township High School in 1945. She married Vernon Hubele on October 25, 1946. She worked at numerous part-time jobs while raising her 3 children. She later attended cosmetology school and became a beautician. She opened Eleanor's Beauty Shop and operated in the basement of her home for many years. Over the years, Eleanor faithfully served her church, Carmi Emmanuel Church, in many capacities, including teaching Sunday School, serving in the United Methodist Women, and singing in the choir. Eleanor loved Jesus first, with her family a close second. She loved singing with her sisters and in the church choir. She thoroughly enjoyed attending events her family was involved in, even if it meant, more recently, watching them through FaceTime. She also took great pleasure in providing delicious meals for her family, most famously bread dressing and chicken and dumplings. Eleanor spent countless hours crocheting blankets to give as gifts. She loved word searches and watching the Game Show Network. Her favorite days were filled with her kids coming and going between practices and appointments. Grandma's house was the center of activity, and she delighted in it, always telling them to "come back and see her". Eleanor is survived by daughters Alice (Ed) Bohleber and Lynn (Jeff) Cantrell; son Terry (Julie) Hubele; sister Grace Shook; in-laws Claire Hubele and Diane Hubele; grandchildren Allen (Katie) Bohleber, Tina (Shon) Mosier, Loren (Brandon) Alexander, Tracy (Brian) Orr; great-grandchildren Lio, Erin, Ema, Ian, Eleanor, Eli, Maxton, and Matilda; great-great granddaughter Peyton; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, her parents, and 4 sisters. Visitation will be held at Emmanuel Church, 203 Edgewood Lane, in Carmi on Thursday, March 2 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and again from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 3. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 3 at 11:00 a.m., also at Emmanuel Church in Carmi, followed by graveside services at White County Memorial Garden. The service will be livestreamed on Emmanuel Church's Facebook page. Memorial contributions can be made to Carmi Emmanuel Church and can be given to Campbell Funeral Home, who is in charge of arrangements.

Roger K. Hubele – Carmi

Roger K. Hubele, a White County farmer, age 83, died Sunday, January 8, 2023, at his home with his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ranelle (Summers), a son JR, a daughter Suzy (Bryan) Tomm, grandsons Braden Tomm and Brett Tomm, and two sisters-in-law Rebecca (Murphy) Hubele, Marty (Summers) Smith and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Neva (Thompson) Hubele and brother Ralph. Roger graduated Carmi Township High School, served in the US Army Reserves, and received a BS in Agronomy from the University of Illinois and a MS in Agriculture Economics from Purdue University. Roger was employed by the University of Illinois Extension Service Farm Business Farm Management and worked part-time as an agriculture loan officer at Gallatin County State Bank in Ridgway, Illinois, before engaging in full-time farming. A lifetime member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Roger participated in numerous service activities and held several leadership positions. He was a member of Gideons International. To further expand his intense interest studying and preserving the past, Roger served many years with White County Historical Society, serving as both treasurer and president. Other volunteer community service included White County Extension Council, Farmers Home Administration Committee, and the Committee for Food and Agriculture Research. Roger devoted 10 years of service with Illinois Corn Marketing Board which included service with National Corn Growers Association and the US Grains Council. That tenure concluded with President of the Board. The Hubele Family was recognized as the Illinois Farm Family of the Year in 2002 by the Illinois Agri-News and Burris Seed Company. He received the Distinguished Service Award from White County Farm Bureau. Roger and Ranelle shared a love of travel and exploring. They visited 43 states as JR and Suzy were growing up and completed visiting the remaining 7 states after their children were grown. They have traveled to 56 foreign countries and visited 6 continents. They thoroughly enjoyed visiting, studying, and exploring other cultures. Visitation is 4-7 pm, Thursday, January 12, 2023, and again beginning at 12:30 pm, Friday, January 13, 2023, followed by funeral at 1:30 pm, all at Emanuel United Methodist Church in Carmi. Burial will be in White County Memorial Gardens, west of Carmi, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or the White County Historical Society and will be accepted at the church or at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi, Illinois, is in charge of arrangements.

Ann H. Niekamp

Ann H. Niekamp received her heavenly crown on December 24, 2022. Ann was born September 26,1940 to Harry Hankins and Elizabeth Stewart Hankins. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Haley; grandson, Duff Haley; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends who she considered family.Ann's marriage to Melvin L. Niekamp began July 6, 1958 and was truly a partnership. She loved being a farm wife and met the many adventures with grace and determination. She joined the local quilting club upon moving to Hamilton County in 1963 and learned a new skill that developed into a quilting business many years later. Ann's cooking skills were legendary, and her table always had room for one more plate. She loved having friends and family in her home and was a second Mom and Aunt to many children throughout her years. She was beloved by many for her generosity and joy. She was a graduate of Concord Grade School and Carmi Township High School. Ann was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She was an active member in Home Extension in Hamilton and White Counties for over 50 years. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; a son, Harry Dale Niekamp; son-in-law, Henry Bob Haley; her parents; stepmother, Anna Hankins; a sister, Jane Gill; and a niece, Anna Cronin.Funeral services for Ann Niekamp will be held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church on December 29, 2022, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a celebration of life at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery near Carmi. Memorial contributions may be made in Ann's name to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church Memorial Fund."You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself."
