Winner in 2016: Jeane Freeman (SNP) CARRICK and Cumnock are still recovering from the shock of being represented by a Tory MP, Bill Grant, between 2017 and 2019 as part of the Westminster constituency of Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock. They need have no fears about a repeat performance this year, though, because the Holyrood constituency of Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley is a very conventional SNP-Labour battleground. Even in the Ruth Davidson surge year of 2016, the Tories were still in third place on 24% of the vote, although admittedly that left them just 3% behind Labour in second. The former Westminster constituency of the same name existed between 1983 and 2005 and was won on every single occasion by Labour veteran George Foulkes.
PatnaDaily A few months ago, we had received a letter from Mr. Donald L. Reid of Ayrshire, Scotland, informing us that there is yet another place on this planet that shares the name of the capital city of Bihar, Patna. Since then, we, at PatnaDaily.Com, had been toying with the idea of sharing this information with our visitors but for one reason or another, the idea remained just that, an idea! This past December, however, things changed as Mr. Reid, a social historian who has written a number of books on the Valley of Doon in Scotland, its rich history and culture, once again expressed his fascination with Patna, Bihar, and the fact that his beloved town and our equally-beloved city shared more than just the name.

WARNINGS have been issued as temperatures are forecast to drop to as low as minus 15C (5F) overnight, ahead of a day of possible sleet and snow showers over most of Scotland. Much of Scotland was hit by a band of snow on Thursday morning which turned into more sporadic showers as it moved into northern England. Forecasters said an even colder pool of air was moving down from Greenland which would bring biting temperatures overnight into Friday morning and a broader area of sleet and snow on Friday. But the Met Office said the weekend would bring a “slight warming”, reducing the chances of snow and frost.
