Flames And Lady Flames Named All-Academic Track & Field Athletes

The All-Academic Teams and All-Academic Athletes for the 2021 NCAA Division II Track & Field seasons were announced last week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Both the Lady Flames and Flames were All-Academic Teams and combined to account for eight All-Academic Athletes.
The Lady Flames recorded a cumulative GPA of 3.48, while the Flames garnered a cumulative GPA of 3.24 to become eligible for the All-Academic Teams designation.
For a team to be named an NCAA Division II All-Academic Team, the cumulative GPA for all student-athletes on the institution’s NCAA squad list for indoor and/or outdoor track & field must be 3.0 or higher.

The Lee women's track and field team took its final shot at reaching the NCAA D2 National Championships at the Lee Last Chance Meet from the Multi-Sport Complex on Saturday.

Celine Ritter recorded a time of 4:25.23 in the 1500-meter run and placed third in the event. Kristen Blevins dashed to a time a third-place finish in the 100 meter (11.86) and was seventh in the 200 meter (24.66).

Carissa Hall placed fourth in the triple jump with a school record mark of 11.87m.
Deborah Rubin wrapped up an impressive junior season with a third place showing in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.89m. Kendra Irvine set a school record in the pole vault at 3.56m.

Deborah Rubin and Celine Ritter posted gold medal performances to help the Lee University women’s track & field team to a first place standing following the first day of the 2021 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Lady Flames accumulated 35 points in three scored events to lead second place Shorter University (27) by eight points.
West Georgia is in third (17) and Alabama Huntsville is fourth (15) with Mississippi College (12) and Montevallo (11) in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Rubin finished first in the hammer throw with a Lee record toss of 49.60 meters. Mattie Thomas placed 10

Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
Many of these honored athletes and coaches are headed to the
2021 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships next week in Birmingham, Alabama.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Year
ATLANTIC REGION – Julian Griffin – Wheeling
Griffin, a freshman from Lebanon, Ohio, is ranked first regionally in the 60H at 8.28.
CENTRAL REGION – Ryan Riddle – Missouri Southern
Riddle, a sophomore from Webb City, Missouri, is ranked third nationally in the mile at 4:01.07. He is also ranked 20th nationally in the 5000 at 14:09.72. Riddle earned the MIAA High Point Award at the conference championships with victories in the mile and 3000 as well as runner-up effort in the 5000.
