Oil Spill Remediation Money to Clear the View at Rivergreen – Everett Independent


More than an acre of Malden River waterfront will be cleared of invasive phragmites and vegetation, and replanted with native plants and trees – while also clearing the site lines for those using the RiverGreen Park.
The project is on about one acre of land just south of the new boat launch in RiverGreen park, and is principally sponsored by Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA). That area along the Malden River is experiencing a resurgence in all ways, but because of invasive phragmites and trees, few can see the changes.
“This project is about connecting people to the River and creating a more ecologically rich habitat and area,” said Amber Christoffersen of MyRWA. “The first time I went back there a few years ago I was excited about the new River Walk, but quickly realized you couldn’t see the River from the River Walk. Energy Facilities Siting Bd. approves controversial substation proposal along the Chelsea Creek site – Chelsea Record


Despite widespread community opposition as well as opposition from over a dozen Massachusetts elected officials the state’s Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) unanimously approved Eversource’s highly controversial plan to build a new substation along the Chelsea Creek in East Boston on Monday afternoon. 
In a marathon meeting that lasted several hours and the adoption of several amendments to Eversource’s plan that included a safety plan, flood zone management and community mitigation the board eschewed Eastie’s and Chelsea’s already overburdened industrial infrastructure and rubber stamped the plan. 
Despite state Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Kathleen Theoharides saying at Monday’s hearing that the substation would be placed in a “heavily, heavily industrialized area within an environmental justice community that has historically suffered disproportionate environmental harms and a heavy burden of infrastructure” she still voted in favor ....
