A man charged with raping a woman on a commuter train just outside of Philadelphia harassed her for more than 40 minutes while multiple people held up their phones to seemingly record the assault without intervening, authorities said on Monday. More than two dozen train stops passed as the man harassed, groped and eventually raped the woman, the police chief for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) told a news conference. He was on the scene after a man jumped in front of a Market-Frankford Line train at 15th Street Station and died the third reported suicide on the subway system this year. “Sadly, it’s more common than not,” said the chief. The tragedy is one of several moving SEPTA officials to try out guardrails to decrease the number of falls and jumps onto its tracks.

A SEPTA police officer's attendance at President Donald Trump's rally in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 has lead scrutiny of the cop's social media accounts and officer being reassigned to an administrative role. The transit police officer is of seven on the SEPTA police force who attended rally that preceded the violent insurrection of the U.S. Capitol. SEPTA is conducting an investigation, and at this time there is no evidence any of the police who attended the "Stop The Steal" rally participated in illegal activity at the U.S. Capitol, a SEPTA spokesperson said.
