Freezing temperatures helped the roads in this region today, but the black ice concerns continue overnight as the temperatures dip once again. whit? kenneth, thanks. let s get right to abc s senior meteorologist, rob marciano. rob, these bitter cold temperatures are going to linger throughout the weekend? reporter: yes, whit, and the refreeze threat tonight and the ice and snow zone is for real. the longer term trend is a cold one for the east. look at these numbers in the morning. temperatures in the morning feel below freezing all the way down to atlanta, tallahassee, new orleans. raleigh and virginia beach. then a couple more pulses of clipper systems that will bring in some snow. good thumping in chicago. could see 2 to 5 inches of know. ft. wayne, indianapolis, columbus, into pittsburgh tomorrow afternoon. and then another one behind this on wednesday, and temperatures towards the end of the week end of the month will be below average in the east. whit? we know you ll be t ....
Clipper systems have begun sweeping the region. the great lakes winter storms can be pretty vengeful. cnn meteorologist allison chinchar with us. when you say severe up there, you mean severe. yeah, yes, of course, the midwest gets snow but some of these clippers can drop a significant amount of snow in a short period of time. showing in chicago, detroit, buffalo getting snow showers as the system slides off to the east but this isis one of two systems pushing through the areas in the next 24 to 46 hours. you have back to back systems and winter weather advisories for several states in the midwest and great lakes region. there is the first one. the second one hitting the exact same spots that the first one did so back to back snow systems. now, the second system not likely to produce quite as much snow as the first one but remember, it s a cumulative ....
Miami, but oh my goodness, look at the wind chill in alaska. this is alaska. northern alaska where it feels like minus 77 in dead horse. that is no joke. they set a record. a record low of minus 53. the coldest since february 1st of 2012 when they were minus 54. the reason i m showing you that is well, we can t complain. and then we re going to set records in california where temperatures are going to be soaring into the 80 s in burbank and fresno and medford. all the way up towards the northwest oregon. we have heat alerts. heat alerts in southern california which is really incredible. and for the game on sunday, temperatures, i mean, in the 80 s. so it s going to be warm in los angeles for the big super bowl. so, bottom line is we have got the cold temperatures. we have got the warm temperatures. a little bit of snow from these clipper systems. but the rest of the country relatively warm but i will tell you as far as south as miami ....
