from health care around the world. a preview of a new gps special that prematures tonight at 8:00 p.m. but, first, here s my take. when i was in college in the early 1980s as part of a student organization, i invited ronald reagan s defense secretary casper weinberger to give a speech on campus y where yous american colleges were hotbeds of opposition to the reagan administration, especially to defense policies. sure enough, as soon as weinberger began to speech, a group of students stood up and began to heckle. one after another they rose and chanted a single line. deterence is a lie. i was reminded of that turbulent meeting because i have been listening to these debates over iran s nuclear ambitions. it highlights a strange role reversal in today s foreign policy discourse. it used to be left searching instead for options like the nuclear freeze, and it used to be people on the right who would patiently explain the practical virtues of deterrented. the conservative th ....

finally, if you thought american debt was worthless, think again. i ll explain. first, here is my take. the american economy seems to have picked up. the dow jones industrial average is hovering around 13,000. the highest since the financial crisis began in may 2008. things do seem to be getting better. this is good news for president obama because there s a strong co-correlation between economic growth and a president s prospects for re-election. the unemployment numbers are still pretty high, but they are also falling. also, many models issing that unemployment is not the crucial statistic to determine whether a president will win re-election. most people after all are employed. it is the rise in per capita gdp. the average person s income rise that determines whether they feel things are getting better and, thus, whether they will vote for the incumbent or seek a change. so does that mean that the economy and the president are in good shape? well, they re in better s ....

a nation with a 2 3erz unemployment rate. it is singapore and its prime minister, you ll want to hear what he has to say. also, i ll explain why we should stop worrying so much about the stumbling revolutions in tunisia, and around the arab world. here s my take, first. now that mitt romney is once again the frontrunner, his campaign focus is returning to president obama. he will probably repeat a line that he has used often in the past. this is a president who fundamentally believes that this next century is a post-american century. now, i leave it to the president to describe what he believes, but as the author of the book the post american world, i would like to clarify the phrase. at the very beginning of the book, i note, this is a book not about the decline of america, but rather about the rise of everyone else. throughout the book i m optimistic, and i think we can prosper in this new world and remain the most powerful country on the planet. i argue that the ....

neil ferguson, kishor and wada. also, how in the world did one of the world s greatest sellers in the global bazaar lose its mojo? i ll explain. first, here s my take. president obama spoke forcefully in his state of the union about the importance of reviving manufacturing in america. if you talk with economists, they ll tell you it s a very complex problem involving tacks, trade, regulatory policy, exchange rates, educational skills. it is all those things, but when you move from high level policy to specific cases, you will often find within element that is rarely talked about. a government s role in boosting its domestic manufacturers. in a front page story last week, the new york times detailed how apple s iphone ended up being made outside america. the times wrote about the apple executives who visited a factory in china to see if it could cut the glass precisely for the phone s touchdown screen. when the apple team got there, the factory owners were already co ....
