Chair of the Supervisory Board/ Voorzitter Raad van Toezicht  Aidsfonds - Soa Aids Nederland We strive for a world where people no longer die from AIDS and where people enjoy good sexual health. A world in which everyone can love freely and without fear. We do this by working together with the people who are hit hardest by HIV, STIs, discrimination and exclusion. We strengthen their voice and support them with information, knowledge and funding. For all that is love. We are working on this in the Netherlands and in 15 countries worldwide. The Supervisory Board Aidsfonds - Soa Aids Nederland is looking for the Chair of its Supervisory Board. The Chair has strong affinity with our vision and mission as it is the main responsibility to guard this mission. Due to its strategy 2022-2025 with “community’s first” as leading principle the organization is in a process of organizational change bringing more southern leadership, inclusivity and diversity. The Executive Director of Aidsfonds - Soa Aids Nederland, Mark Vermeulen, is primarily responsible for the organization’s strategy and policies and takes decisions on its operation. The Supervisory Board monitors the Executive Director’s performance and gives advice on and approves the overall policy and strategy. This includes amongst others the approval of the Multiyear Strategy and Budget, Annual Plan, Annual Budget, Annual Accounts and the Annual Report. The Supervisory Board currently consists of six members. Due to the departure of our Chair Eric van der Burg as the result of his appointment in the Rutte-4 cabinet, we are looking for a Chair of the Supervisory Board. The Chair will be appointed for four years with a possibility to extend this term to another four years (maximum duration however is eight years). The Chair of the Supervisory Board Naturally has strong affinity with the mission of Aidsfonds - Soa Aids Nederland and its objectives. Must be an experienced Chairperson, a bridge builder with a strong sense of the roles to be played and with strong affinity for diversity and inclusion, someone who is adept at judgment and action. Has excellent knowledge of and experience with the Dutch administrative and political context. Has experience as Chair of a Supervisory Board or has experience with different roles in different boards, either in a for-profit or non-profit organization or foundation. Has board level (international) experience preferably in one or more of the following areas: human rights, general governance, (international) politics or (international) health. Acts as a sparring partner and sounding board for the executive director and is complimentary to the executive director. Brings demonstrable experience in navigating high-stakes conversations and public performance. Has excellent skills in connecting/networking and understands inclusive Chairpersonship. Is politically sensitive, an egoless connector and has a helicopter view. Is based in the Netherlands. Interested? Remuneration: Aidsfonds - Soa Aids Nederland Supervisory Board membership is a voluntary position without remuneration. Nevertheless, the Supervisory Board views its role as a professional task and expects its members to provide sufficient time to carry out its duties. The Board currently meets 4 times a year in a regular board meeting and a kick-off meeting with the management team and staff at the start of a year. Twice a year the Supervisory Board meets the Works Council. Additional time might be occasionally necessary in the support of the Executive Director at events. .- Professor Mariët Westermann will take up her new position as member of the Supervisory Board of the Rijksmuseum on 7 July 2021. Mariët Westermann is professor of Arts and Humanities at New York University Abu Dhabi, where she also serves as Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive.
Mariët Westermann (b. 1962) studied Art History in the United States. After completing her PhD in 1997 at New York University with her thesis on Jan Steen, the comic painter, she served in academic and management posts at several US universities. Prior to making the move to New York University Abu Dhabi in 2019, Westermann was Executive Vice President of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in New York.
