"On Dec. 8, 1941, all students and teachers were ushered into the Santa Cruz High School auditorium at 9:30 a.m., to hear President Franklin D. Roosevelt speak live over the radio. In his address to the joint session of Congress, FDR announcing that Dec. 7, 1941 was 'a day which will live in infamy,' as an unprovoked Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor occurred while a state of peace existed between the two nations," writes columnist Ross Eric Gibson.
