The US State of Maine has laid off 15 independent IT contractors, each paid $13,000 a month, who were working on its paused project to implement a new Workday HR and finance system, which is at least two years late and millions of dollars over budget.
What exactly the contractors were doing during March is open to question since Workday suspended the project in February, owing to a contract dispute with the administration.
Nonetheless, those techies-for-hire got an average of $13,000 each, at a rate $108 per hour, according to Kirsten Figueroa, commissioner of the Maine Department of Administrative and Financial Services.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Missouri lawmakers claim the Department of Labor went back on its word to halt collections of overpayment money.
41 Action News first reported this issue in
July 2020, when Missourians reported receiving notices of overpayment from the agency. The notices said they had been overpaid due to no fault of their own, through agency error and they needed to pay that money back.
After months of stress and struggling to get any information about the notices, the agency explained about 45,000 Missourians had received them.

MO Bipartisan Bill Allowing Missourians To Keep A Portion Of Overpaid Unemployment Benefits Passes

MO News Update-PM: 02/18/21
A bipartisan bill passed by the Special Committee on Government Oversight on Wed. Feb. 18, would allow Missourians to keep a portion of overpaid unemployment benefits, that were paid out of federal funds.
Missouri overpaid more than $150 million in unemployment since the start of the pandemic, according to the Missouri Department of Labor Director. An estimated 75 to 80 percent of the overpaid benefits came from federal funds, which Missourians would be able to keep as long as they did not commit fraud.
Representative Tony Lovasco was one of two republican members on the committee who were concerned about the bill's lack of definition of fraud in the bill’s context.
