Nearly $2.9 Million in Federal Funding Awarded to Acquire, Rehab Affordable Homes

In August, the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) issued a Request for Proposals to acquire, develop and rehabilitate affordable rental housing throughout Fairfax County. In the request, HCD cited the availability of nearly $2.9 million in federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds. At the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority’s (FCRHA’s) December 17 meeting, the Commissioners approved the award of available funds as follows:
$445,485 to Sunrise Community of Virginia, Inc.
Funds will be utilized to acquire and renovate a single-family home to provide community living for five individuals with incomes at or below 30 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI) – roughly $37,800 – and with medically complex intellectual and physical development disabilities. ....

EDWARDSVILLE The Madison County Board is expected to vote Wednesday on a new community development director, a former aide for U.S. Rep. Mike Bost.
Dave Tanzyus of Collinsville would replace Trudy Bodenbach who has occupied the position for three years. Bodenbach replaced Kristen Poshard, who was terminated for failing to show up for work for several months.
Madison County Board Chairman Kurt Prenzler declined to comment on Bodenbach’s departure.
Tanzyus has nearly 30 years of experience at all levels ofr government and small business, according to a release from the Madison County Board office. ....

High demand for Kingston rental assistance

KINGSTON, N.Y. â Almost half of those applying forÂ COVID-19-related rental assistance are being rejected, an official said Monday.
Summer Smith, director of the city communications and community engagement, said that 125 applications have been submitted to RUPCO, an affordable housing agency, since the program was launched on Dec. 1.
Of those, 53 were denied.

â67% or the majority are renters outside the City of Kingston (and) 15% were either receiving a rental assistance subsidy, or not in arrears, and a couple could not produce adequate hardship,â Smith said in an email.
Smith said 15 have provided proper documentation and will be put into a lottery. RUPCO and the city hope to provide assistance to 20 to 25 households. ....
