Joanna Lumley, actress, "I shall be hugging literally everyone I can get my hands on. I shall snatch babies from their mothers, and lean over zimmer frames: I shall hug girls at the till, the picture framer, and lads playing footie in the park. Much later obviously I shall be hugging police personnel as I am charged at the station. Hugger-mugger, that’s me!"

London Mayor election: How range of joke candidates led to record 114,000 ruined ballots

Card image cap

A dizzying range of joke candidates left voters so baffled a record number of ballots were rejected in this month's London mayoral election.
Around 114,000 ballots were spoilt after the first round of voting because the 20 candidates packed onto a sheet of A4 paper confused voters into either accidentally ticking the first-choice column twice or choosing too many contenders.
Labour candidate Sadiq Khan went on to secure victory in the May 6 election and has been awarded a second term as Mayor of London with 1,013,721 first-choice votes.
But with the four rows of candidates featuring mainly jokesters, public opinion may have become 'disenfranchised', according to one politics expert.

Closing in on my two week post-vaccine period. Throughout, I had weird stuff with aches and tiredness and sleep problems… which is not different from the PAST YEAR so what the hey.
Also, my new career plan (my old one is as dead as TFG’s brain) is perking along with a Patreon Podcast,

It shouldn't be a shock to the Left-wing media that people vote Tory

It shouldn't be a shock to the Left-wing media that people vote Tory
The broadcast media and the cultural elite continue to exist in an echo chamber detached from the public
10 May 2021 • 6:00am
I think Boris can safely re-tile the kitchen now. Much of the broadcast media was convinced his No 10 makeover would hurt him in last Thursday’s elections: we weren’t far off a
Newsnight reconstruction with Lewis Goodall, dressed as Carrie, running around an animated John Lewis with a can of petrol. But the mood on
Have I Got News for You on Friday, recorded when the votes weren’t counted but obvious nevertheless, was funereal. Why, the host asked, didn’t Wallpapergate cut through? Given that this show created the Boris phenomenon, much like

Sadiq Khan wins second term as London mayor despite tighter-than-expected race

Labour’s Sadiq Khan has won a second term as Mayor of London, beating Conservative rival Shaun Bailey by a narrower than expected margin. He won more than one million first-preference votes in the contest, but turnout was only 42%. In his victory speech, Mr Khan said he wanted to “build a brighter future” for London after coronavirus. The incumbent gained 1,013,721 first-preference votes compared to Bailey’s 893,051, then a further 192,313...

Laurence Fox loses £10,000 deposit in London Mayor bid

Laurence Fox has lost his £10,000 deposit for his bid to be London Mayor after getting 1.8 per cent of the vote.
The actor, 42, who set up the Reclaim Party for his election race, won 47,634 votes placing him in sixth, behind YouTuber Niko Omilana whose policies included 'Boris Johnson will be forced to shush' and 'the price of Fredos will go back to 5p'.
Candidates need five per cent of first-preference votes to get back their deposits, which only three candidates surpassed: Sadiq Khan, Shaun Bailey and the Green's Sian Berry.

Laurence Fox loses £10,000 deposit after getting less than 2% of London mayoral votes

Laurence Fox, the former actor and self-style “anti-woke” campaigner, has lost his deposit in the London mayoral election after receiving less than 2 per cent of votes. Are you a Red Wall Tory?
7th May 2021
RED Wall Tories have made their voices heard in Labour’s former heartlands. Take our quiz and find out if you’re one of these confusing voters.
What do you think of Boris Johnson?
A) He’s a straightforward, honest bloke who does what he says. He’s one of us and he’d fit right in at the working men’s club. Yeah, I don’t know where I get this shite from either.
B) ‘Liar’ and ‘scumbag’ are the first words that come to mind, but I can think of more.
