Lies and misinformation that align with an individual’s political views and could eventually come true are perceived to be less unethical – even justified – because they agree with the broader sentiment behind the lie, according to a new study.

People who consider how a lie might become true think it is less unethical to tell because they judge the lie's broader message, or the gist, as true enough, according to a London Business School study.
