Note On Plans For NXT Talents Working Dark Matches

WWE having members of its NXT roster appear in main roster show dark matches is expected to continue into tomorrow, according to a new report. As has been reported, several names from NXT have been working matches before Raw and Smackdown, including a few people who have been moved to Smackdown’s roster in Shotzi, Nox, and Toni Storm. Those names have included in recent days Xia Li, Austin Theory, Odyssey Jones and Daniel Vidot
The NXT roster on the loop is expected to remain so until a few have to head back to Florida for NXT on Tuesday. There’s no word on if any of them are competing in dark matches before tonight’s Money in the Bank.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. works dark match prior to WWE SmackDown

Davey Boy Smith Jr. appeared in a dark match prior to tonight’s SmackDown.
Smith teamed with Austin Theory to take on Odyssey Jones and Xyon Quinn (formerly Daniel Vidot). Smith was billed under his real name, Harry Smith. In another dark match, Xia Li wrestled Aliyah.
WWE later posted a video on social media with Smith talking about his return to WWE.
Originally signed by WWE in 2006, Smith was released by WWE in 2011 and spent most of the last decade teaming with Lance Archer as the Killer Elite Squad in New Japan Pro Wrestling, where they won the IWGP Tag Team titles on three occasions. Smith left NJPW in 2019 and has worked dates with MLW since his departure. He also attended the WWE Hall of Fame indcution ceremony this year, where his father The British Bulldog was inducted.

Harry Smith Announces WWE Return, Backstage Photos Of Dark Match Competitors

Harry Smith (aka Davey Boy Smith Jr., DH Smith) has announced that he is back in WWE.
As noted, tonight’s Money In the Bank go-home edition of SmackDown from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas featured two pre-show dark matches with Smith and WWE NXT Superstars in action – Smith and Austin Theory vs. Odyssey Jones and Xyon Quinn, plus Aliyah vs. Xia Li.
In an update, the tag team bout was won by Smith and Theory, while the singles match was won by Li.
Smith spoke with Megan Morant for a post-match backstage interview, which you can watch below. Smith talked about being away from WWE for a decade, making himself a better wrestler around the world, and how he is now back. Morant asked Smith what it felt like being the first Superstar to come through the curtain.

– Harry Smith made his return to WWE in a pre-Smackdown dark match, and he discussed the return in a new video. As previously noted, Smith worked a match alongside Austin Theory against Odyssey Jones and Xyon Quinn, aka Daniel Vidot.
In an interview backstage after the match, Megan Morant asked him about his return. He said, “You know, it’s great to be back in the WWE. Especially in front of the WWE Universe, live here in Houston, Texas. The atmosphere, the ambience, the energy that you can feel from a live WWE audience? Nothing can touch that. And that’s why Harry Smith is back in the WWE. The past 10 years I’ve been going around the globe, making myself the best competitor that I can be. All over in Japan, all over in Europe, and that’s why I’m back in the WWE, to show exactly how much Harry Smith has grown over this past time.”

Brendan Vink Releases "Dark Side Of The Ring" Spoof On His WWE Status
WWE NXT Superstar Brendan Vink has released a spoof of Vice’s “Dark Side of the Ring” series to make light of his WWE status.
You can see the first episode of Vink’s “Dark Side of the Smug” series above. It features Chelsea Green, Rhea Ripley, Bronson Reed, Matt Martel, Daniel Vidot, and Hartley Jackson.
Vink was used on RAW earlier this year in a tag team with Shane Thorne, who is now performing as Slapjack in RETRIBUTION. WWE pulled Vink from RAW and he was later re-packaged, at least on Twitter, as Tony Modra.
