Even as 2020 comes to a close, the same problems that roiled the economy in March continue to plague us.
More than 10 million Americans remain unemployed, and new unemployment claims rose yet again this month.
While Congress appears to be close to passing a new stimulus package, for many it could be too little, too late: almost 8 million Americans nationwide have fallen into poverty. In North Carolina, over the course of the pandemic, more than 30% of the state's workforce have submitted unemployment claims. The impact is also tangible on a local level, as a 'tent city' has cropped up just blocks from uptown Charlotte.
