Dozens of residents lined up in South Los Angeles to apply for the 'Breathe: LA County's Guaranteed Income Program'- California's latest Universal Basic Income program.
The program, part of Lightfoot's $16.7 billion proposed budget for 2022, was approved by the city's council on Wednesday. The pilot will give monthly payments of $500 to 5,000 Chicago families.
BIG:LEAP, or Basic Income Guaranteed: Los Angeles Economic Assistance Pilot, will be the largest guaranteed income program in the US. Applications will open Friday, October 29.
