On Monday, Oct. 16, the Daisy Garden Club meeting was held at the Crossroads Event Center at 5 p.m. Club President Barbara Carroll called the meeting to order.

SERVE volunteers share reflections after Overseas Volunteer Programme

30 volunteers from across Ireland complete the SERVE Volunteer Programmes in India, Mozambique and Zambia.   They were involved in a variety of activities with members of the local communities. These activities ranged from playing with young children, teaching English, organising a Sports Day, helping teachers in classrooms of youth with disabilities, facilitating youth work related activities, helping with building work, designing and making a mural about the Global Goals and so much more.

HENDERSON — Vance County residents have come together over the last few weeks to express their support of local Highway Patrol Trooper James Brent Montgomery, who is fighting for his life at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill due to COVID-19.
His wife, Heather Montgomery, is asking the community to keep her husband in their prayers as he battles COVID-19, and is optimistic that some recent minor improvements with his condition are a positive sign that he will recover from the virus.
The trooper is on a heart-lung machine, receiving what’s called extracorporeal membrane oxygenation that’s purging carbon dioxide from his bloodstream.

A pandemic can't keep Daisy's gardeners down


HENDERSON — Despite this year’s COVID 19 pandemic, the Daisy Garden Club of Henderson, has remained true to carrying out its goal of being active and making a positive impact in the community.
Recently, the club donated items to the Salvation Army seasonal project. Members would like to encourage other clubs to donate to various community organizations in need.
Some of the club activities included: beautifying plots at Perry Memorial Library with Black-Eyes Susans, Sweet Williams and Liriope flowering plants and Davis-Royster Funeral Home with Begonias and Vinca flowering plants; virtually visiting members flower gardens; touring Mrs. Sylvia Wilson’s flower gardens; acknowledging veterans with cards and calls; preparing food and goodie bags for the homeless; contributing financially to Shop with Cops, donating to Give Hope for The Holidays (food boxes, through Food Lion); and making pillowcase dresses to be donated to Haiti.
