The Mountaineers are now 26-17 and 8-12 in conference play. The Chanticleers move to 21-23, 9-15 in the Sun Belt. The final seeding for the 2021 Sun Belt Softball Tournament will be announced following the last regular season games on Saturday. Game 1 Coastal Carolina picked up where they left off in game one of the series, hitting four home runs in game two. The Chanticleers took the lead in the top of the third as Makiya Thomas brought in Taylor Sweigart on an RBI single. The lead went to 2-0 in the fourth as Mary Sobataka hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Sydney Guess.

With the win, App State clinches at least the sixth seed in the Sun Belt Tournament, avoiding the single elimination play-in game. The Mountaineers are now 26-15 and 8-10 in conference play. The Chanticleers (19-23, 7-15 SBC) battled until the end, coming back from a six-run deficit to cut the Mountaineer lead to two in the top of the seventh inning. Coastal Carolina had the tying run on base, but a ground out to second base ended the game for an App State victory.

The Mountaineers are now 25-15 overall and 7-10 in conference play. UTA falls to 16-29 (9-11 SBC). Longanecker (13-6) gave up only three hits on the day, striking out one and issuing three walks. She was aided by the Mountaineer defense that didn’t record a single error on the day. This is the right-hander’s third shutout of the season.

Game 1 The first game was a defensive battle as two of the top pitchers in the Sun Belt faced off with Troy’s Leanna Johnson and App State’s Kenzie Longanecker in the circle.
