All In With Chris Hayes

almost two years ago, president joe biden, along with the house and the senate, narrowly controlled by democrats, pulled this off. after bidens signature climate law appeared to be left for dead, row mansion shifted course . this ensured the law's passage despite completely unanimous republican resistance. it has been hailed as transformative by activists and engineers. the inflation reduction act has a big political problem. many people don't know many about it or its impact. look at this polling about the laws affects on the economy. american workers, effects, and climate change. more to help, on the left and blue, it helps, in green. look at the big purple section, a plurality of all of them. that is people saying they just don't know enough about the law to actually respond.

everyone's concerned there might be a stealth juror in the mix, a injury who says they can be fair but is really in the tank for one side or the other. these are skillful lawyers on both sides, the cumulative experience on the prosecution team is very impressive. this is their job to detect jurors who aren't telling the truth to protect the integrity of the jury. we saw that happen earlier this week when the d.a.'s team came back and questioned juror number four, had found information that they felt like that juror had not revealed and had that juror removed. >> we do know their professions, this is a highly educated group. you've got a teacher. you've got a couple of lawyers, a couple of engineers, a speech therapist, a physical therapist. polls have shown when it comes to voters, this demographic is sort of a weak spot for trump. carol, if you're his defense team, does that give you pause? >> it does give one pause because one of the, i think, consequences of having not only

Yama: Three-engineers' body question - The Economic Times

Three engineering students debate the human body's designers, with some suggesting mechanical, electrical, or civil engineers. A dog, bird, and cat die, and Yama, the lord of death, asks each one their beliefs. The dog believes in discipline, training, and loyalty, while the bird believes in singing for his master. The cat believes in being in Yama's seat.

individually. i had jury selection last as long as six weeks, though that's rare. normally it takes a day. you don't have it go more than one day. but i say that because here when you look at this makeup, the people that make us nervous as trial lawyers are other attorneys and engineers also make us very nervous. the reason why is because they can say, you know what, i don't agree with this law, but it is still the law and i'm going to follow it. and so you typically want to know more about an individual like that, having one is a threat, here on this jury panel, you have three so far. that's 25% of your jury. >> with limited information we do have, what do you make of the jury so far? >> you know, it is interesting, jose, because the jury selection is purported to be this incredible science and all of the scrutiny. but the end of the day, a lot of it is based on hunches and even stereotypes. assumptions that people have certain world views based on the kind of job they have. we heard engineers or lawyers or people who think about things

to get ready for this trial? >> you already have your opening statement written, you're practicing it. you want to tell the jury a story. >> are you tweaking it based on who the jurors are now? >> absolutely. so you've got engineers. you've got lawyers. chris, when i was a prosecutor doing public corruption cases, i never wanted lawyers on my jury for the reasons that alan described, the concern is that other jurors will look to them as experts on the law rather than the judge. the prosecution is also worried that lawyers will have too high a standard about what proof beyond a reasonable doubt is. there's the same concern about scientists. there's an engineer on the jury. so yeah, you're tweaking your opening statement based on who these people are. and, again, six new jurors have been selected today. there's going to be a lot of investigation, googling, looking at social media for these six new folks over the weekend to see if there are any biases that

noise he flew a bunch of flyers, i was shocked that he just immediately burnt himself. >> this happened as the jury was seated we entered the day with 12 jurors and one alternate and a pretty quickly leading up to that moment five alternates were seated and what i can tell you about those alternates there is a woman who lives in chelsea, a contract specialist for two decades she says she is not a big news consumer, there is a man who works as an audio professional and he made a joke in court saying that if you have any microphone issues he could help with that. there is a woman who lives in murray hill and of the 12 jurors who were seated yesterday their professions, the judge of limited some protections for the jurors so we can no longer share where they work but we can share the fields that they work in, there are two engineers, at two attorneys, a financial consultant, a speech therapist and a physical therapist so

people who are smart enough to grasp that and take themselves out of this and look from the outside. i didn't and say, well, did the did the prosecution prove their case and not holding to some unrealistic burden? and you want those jurors who also are going to not concerned with the lawyer here who's a jurors, not to impose their beliefs, but follow what the judge says, an understand that there's going to be a witness here, for example, michael cohen, but not just michael cohen, who is admitted to lying, who has been convicted of crime and say, i can still be objective? yes prosecution. i'm going to hold you to the burden, but no criminal defense. i'm not just going to side with you and say because michael cohen, for example, has a criminal record, i can find him credible. so i think they've done a good job into stacy's point. this is a fairly mundane group, at least on the six alternates but they've done a good job to find jurors who appear to be smart enough engineers attorneys, a teacher to follow the law and be above and beyond. but at the same time, they have that a common sense to say, i can understand credibility, i can look at that person and see what they say and then make that assessment

in the original frame, we would be able to fly about 19 passengers. it looks like a lot of kit in there. how would you fit in 19 people? yeah, so in the retrofitted configuration, it will be about a dozen people. daniela is one of the engineers working on the engine. actually, the fuel cells are this one. the power is created in these small layers. so you have to build up your layers to create the power to take off an aircraft. this engine could almost provide enough power to get you from london to glasgow, but not quite. if you wanted to scale it up for international flights, would you just make the same thing bigger or is it a totally different exercise? it is scalable until a certain power, but then we'll have to change technology. getting this high power density system that will allow to have a lot of power but minimal weight to be integrated on an aircraft is really a challenge.
