Heighter? if you had an experienced heighter you set your transponder to sent out 7700 which is the international call for distress but they clearly had experienced people on that plane because they knew about the acar system and the transponders and so on. i m not saying the co-pilot did it but something going on in the cockpit the last time the copiloted made routine communication with no distress in his voice. do we have independent verification of that? the malaysian authorities have been a little all over the place with this time line. they have changed the story. they have been a lot all over the place. they initially got the time of the fms sending the acar signal wrong. but i think the timing of the communication with their traffic control, the timing of turning off the transponder the time when they lost radar contact with when they lost radar ....

Initially i thought somebody came into the cockpit because we heard it was an hour out before this happened. but if you look at the timing, it departed at midnight 41 and seven minutes after the hour, they had the last acars report. that acars report was sent with a position report. if the information is correct that that position was input in the computer that they stated was between the pilots, i m assuming it was in the number three fms. that would have been a jump seater. the timing, there wouldn t have been enough time for somebody in the cockpit to take over and input it. so i m fairly certain. now i heard there was a flight engineer on the manifest. so there could be your third person right there. okay. david, point, counterpoint? not buying it, here s why. the engineer was a mechanic, not someone that was familiar probably with the 757 fms. ....

Number two, if i m a captain and my jump seater starts punching buttons, i m going to ask him to excuse himself from the cockpit. so it s unlikely they would allow a person up there. i would have to disagree go ahead, karleen, defend your theory. initially i thought beyond the flight engineer. we already know the first officer has a history of letting unauthorized people on the flight deck. the captain is just to be clear, they were very attractive australian women. absolutely. boys will be boys. we also know they do that. he has a passion for flying, he loves it. so some comes up, a private pilot, the middle of the night. we know one person lets people ....

You have to believe at some point somebody reprogrammed the autopilot. that could have been done on the ground prior to liftoff. not uncommon for all pilots to put several routings in their autopilot. the mfs, what they use to input the autopilot could have been programmed three days before they left for all we know. i heard a couple of commentators talk about the pilot would have to see him reinput all that information. bill: would you? no, not at all. bill: really? not at all. bill: if you re the copilot or pilot or whomever you could do it without the other guy even seeing it? absolutely. the pilot read be newspaper. bill: this is 30 minutes in the flight. correct. correct. now the copilot goes over and punches in a new routing which is in emmemory in the fms and goes into the autopilot an starts the turn. bill: what about the flight simulate or in the home, how significant could that be if files were deleteed? originally i thought it was ....

Of a sudden made a u-turn and got into a very big discussion about what s it doing, why is it behind us? it should be ahead of us. because they had one identifier on their route wrong. this is not a subtle system that there could be an no, they re going to see it, and with this left turn, it would be presented on their pfd. one last question for you, greg. that is, i ve been i ve tried to be very small c conservative in terms of figuring out what is real data, what s nobknowable, and what is speculation. it s hard to keep things straight because a lot of coverage on this is so hysteric hysterical. if information from the acars told us what we discussed about the fms, flight management system, if we got that data and it told us that much, is it going to tell us anything else? is there anything else from electronic data from that plane that s likely to give us any further information about what happened, or in your estimation, have we exhausted what we re going to be able to ....
