Officials said that the recent series of thunderstorms brought "abundant lightning" through the forest on June 24, sparking a number of small fires. “We are actively working to suppress all fires and are utilizing the additional resources we brought in ahead of yesterday’s lightning to keep the fires as small as possible,” said Mike Appling, Forest Fire Management Officer for the Klamath National Forest. “We also brought in smokejumpers from Redding to deploy onto the fires that are too remote to reach quickly with ground resources.”
