State Supreme Court denies Schriever man s appeal in shooting death
A Schriever man convicted of manslaughter in 2009 will continue serving his 25-year sentence after the Louisiana Supreme Court denied his appeal.
British Lamont James, 33, was convicted in the Dec. 9, 2007, shooting death of 21-year-old Jarret Scott. He was originally charged with second-degree murder, which would have carried a mandatory life sentence.
During the three-day trial, witnesses described a fight outside Scott’s home on La. 311 involving James. Afterward, James went home, got a gun, returned and fired four shots, two of which struck Scott.
James later told police he fired the shots in the air to scare Scott but did not intend to shoot him. ....
