Alex Eala receives P1.2M grant from ITF

Alex Eala got a financial boost in her young tennis career after receiving a $25,000 (P1.2 million) grant from the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) junior grant program of 2021.
This year, the initiative benefitted 15 junior players including Eala, as it enables eligible players to receive up to $25,000 per season to assist with their training and competition costs.
“It’s a huge, huge help,” Eala said in an interview with itftennis.com. “It’s really a big help for me, and I’m sure for the other players as well.”
“For players who are supporting themselves, tennis is not a cheap sport. It’s hard to travel everywhere; you have to find those opportunities. The [grants] really help players venture out and find the right paths for them.”

Junior tennis sensation Alex Eala opened her season with a bang with a quick first-round victory in the ITF Manacor $15,000 women’s tournament in Spain.
Eala, who entered the tournament hosted by the Rafa Nadal Academy as a junior reserve, routed wildcard bet and fellow junior player Anna Paradisi of Italy, 6-1, 6-2.
The victory arranged the 15-year-old PH bet a tough second-round match against top seed Seone Mendez of Australia, who bested wildcard entry Angela Fita Boluda, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Mendez, 21, is currently ranked No. 282 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) while Eala is at No. 1187. The Australian also boasted of seven titles in the $15,000 women’s tournaments in 2019.
