Vanguardia glad Blackwater finally woke up from deep sleep

It seemed like a tough 46-point drubbing and a couple of tongue-lashing from head coach Ariel Vanguardia were exactly what Blackwater needed to wake up from its deep sleep and break out of the slump.

Bay Area makes grand PBA debut with record rout of Blackwater

EXPLOSIVE DEBUT. Myles Powell (11) scores 41 points while holding Cameron Krutwig to just 11 in their PBA debuts during the Blackwater-Bay Area Commissioner's Cup game on Wednesday (Sept. 21, 2022) at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Bay Area, a guest team, dominated Blackwater, 137-88. (Photo courtesy of PBA Images) MANILA - Bay Area made a formal introduction to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) with the same as how it dominated the competition during its tune-up games, zapping Blackwater, 133-87, to start the mid-season Commissioner's Cup on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. The Dragons, a guest team for the conference as they prepare for the upcoming East Asia Super League season, quickly shut down the Bossing en route to a 64-36 halftime, tying the largest halftime lead of this PBA year. The Hong Kong-based squad coached by Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Brian Goorjian never looked back from there as the club set the new league record for the most lopsided win by a guest team, PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon said. The 46-point win is also the 10th largest winning margin ever and the biggest since 2017. Myles Powell had a scintillating PBA debut with 41 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal for Bay Area. Glen Yang added 22 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and one steal for the Dragons, who went 9-0 in their preseason games including 3-0 against the Ever Bilena franchise. Ato Ular continued where he left off from the Philippine Cup, leading Blackwater, which was handed its worst loss ever, with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Cameron Krutwig came close to a triple-double in his own PBA debut, putting up 11 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists with one block. Trevis Jackson put up eight markers, one board, one dime, and two swipes in his first game as a Bossing, while Gab Banal went scoreless in his first Blackwater game, although he had one rebound and three assists. Troy Rosario, the superstar Blackwater got from the three-team trade with NLEX and TNT earlier this week, sat out the conference opener. (PNA) }

Oftana to TNT, Rosario to Blackwater in 3-team trade with NLEX

MANILA - Calvin Oftana will now be part of TNT Tropang Giga after the league's trade committee approved a three-team trade with NLEX Road Warriors and Blackwater Bossing on Monday. The Road Warriors sent Oftana and Raul Soyud to the Tropang Giga, who then gave up Troy Rosario and Gab Banal to the Bossing, who in turn shipped Brandon Rosser to the Road Warriors. Blackwater also gave up its second round picks for the Season 48 and Season 51 drafts to NLEX. Rosario and Banal's arrival will give the Bossing a huge boost as they look to begin the PBA Commissioner's Cup on a winning note right in the very first game of the conference against the Bay Area Dragons on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Oftana, on the other hand, finds himself under the tutelage of coach Chot Reyes again at the Tropang Giga camp nearly a month after he was called up to Gilas Pilipinas for the fourth window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. Rosser, the first overall pick of this year's draft, finds himself with a rebuilding Road Warriors lineup in just his second conference in the PBA 5-on-5 play. Desiderio retires The initial trade package had Blackwater only trading Rosser to NLEX, but the Ever Bilena franchise quickly adjusted and added Paul Desiderio to the mix in hopes of sweetening the pot. However, a late switch saw Desiderio, currently recovering from a season-ending knee injury, taken out of the trade package in lieu of the two future second rounders. Despite that, Desiderio will not be returning to the PBA. The 25-year-old guard called it a career after four full seasons, all with the Bossing. His inclusion in the trade would have given Desiderio, who led University of the Philippines to the UAAP men's basketball finals in 2018, a chance to play for the Road Warriors, who drafted him during the same year ahead of the PBA 44th Season. Desiderio was embroiled in a controversy late into the PBA Philippine Cup eliminations as his former fiance, former UAAP courtside reporter Agatha Uvero, accused him of physical and emotional abuse. Rosario officially with Blackwater - BusinessMirror

TROY ROSARIO is officially with Blackwater—so is Gab Banal—and filling their slots at TNT Tropang Giga are Calvin Oftana and Raul Soyud, who were sourced from NLEX in a three-team trade the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) approved on Monday.
