Johnson and his wife, Nancy, eventually moved to Atlanta, where he was a host on Peachtree TV. Johnson was once a regular volunteer at Holy Angels in Belmont, which cares for people with intellectual developmental disabilities. He was an emcee for numerous events at Holy Angels starting in the early 1990s until he moved to Georgia in the 2000s.
