New evidence of SARS-CoV-2 spreading on planes

New evidence of SARS-CoV-2 spreading on planes
New research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) journal
Emerging Infectious Diseases analyzed a case showing in-flight transmission of acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) despite passengers getting tested before departing to New Zealand.
Since the first coronavirus wave, New Zealand has had an exceptional response to the pandemic with a system of managed isolation and quarantine for people entering the country. The restrictions also expanded to include testing people for COVID-19 on the third and twelfth day of quarantine.
The world currently has over 114 million global cases and over 2.53 million deaths. New Zealand has some of the lowest cases around the globe reporting approximately 2,378 cases and 26 deaths. ....

Diverse patient population helps identify gene variant associated with childhood asthma

Diverse patient population helps identify gene variant associated with childhood asthma
Researchers at Henry Ford Health System, as part of a national asthma collaborative, have identified a gene variant associated with childhood asthma that underscores the importance of including diverse patient populations in research studies.
The study is published in the print version of the
American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
For 14 years researchers have known that a casual variant for early onset asthma resides on chromosome 17, which holds one of the most highly replicated and significant genetic associations with asthma. Henry Ford researchers acknowledged they would not have identified it in this study without a diverse patient population that included African Americans, many from the metro Detroit area. ....

Laboratory Information Management System for Genomic Laboratories Launched Labmate Online

Feb 27 2021 Read 9244 Times
CliniSys has launched a new laboratory information management system for genomic laboratories in the UK. The company has brought GLIMS Genomics to the UK from Europe, where it is being successfully deployed at Poitiers University Hospital in France and will be introduced into seven additional laboratories in coming months.
GLIMS Genomics has been designed to support the effective management of genomic laboratories and the UK launch is particularly timely as the NHS is now delivering a national Genomic Medicine Service for England through seven Genomic Laboratory Hubs.
These aim to deliver a comprehensive, standardised testing service for English hospitals, as genomic testing starts to become a routine part of clinical practice.   ....
