Councilman opposes money for Valley homeless housing project

Los Angeles City Councilman John Lee is again battling plans for a homeless housing project along Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Chatsworth, more than a year after the council voted to approve funding for the development.
Lee recently put forward a proposal to yank money being allocated for the Chatsworth project under Proposition HHH, a $1.2-billion bond measure approved by voters. The rescinded funds should instead be earmarked for “an innovative project proposal” in his district that could be built more quickly and at a lower cost, Lee stated.
As it stands, more than $7 million is slated to be allocated from the HHH program for the Topanga Canyon Boulevard development, according to the housing department. The city attorney’s office declined to comment on whether there would be any legal barrier to rescinding the HHH funds for the project.

Banner Program Honors Northridge-Chatsworth Military Heroes

NORTHRIDGE-CHATSWORTH, CA — If there's a military hero in your family, you might be able to tell the world about it.
Councilmember John Lee has teamed up with VFW Post 2323 in Granada Hills to create the Hometown Heroes Banner Program, which will design, print, and install banners honoring CD12 residents who have served their country. Banners can commemorate soldiers still serving, or veterans who have served.
The program is aiming to hang different banners at major points all over Northridge and Chatsworth by July, according to Grace Yao, a spokesperson for Lee's office. The banners will be hung from July until June, and each family will have the opportunity to honor one service member. Families are responsible for the $250 for making and hanging the banner.

L.A. wants to impose tougher enforcement for mask violators

But there’s been little enforcement of the rule.
Now, the Los Angeles City Council wants to crack down on mask scofflaws. Following local demonstrations by anti-mask groups at shopping malls, grocery stores and homeless encampments, the council moved Wednesday to bolster restrictions and subject more violators to financial penalties.
The council unanimously voted to order city attorneys to draft a law that would impose fines and penalties on those who refuse to wear a mask at indoor businesses when requested to do so by management, and on individuals who refuse to wear a mask when “invading someone’s personal space.”
