An Asian American family in O.C. was being harassed. Now their neighbors stand guard

Every night, the neighbors converge on the Si family’s two-story home, which has large windows and an expansive porch adorned with columns.
Some sit in camping chairs in front of the driveway. Others keep watch from their cars or patrol the nearby parks.
The Sis moved to this upscale Ladera Ranch neighborhood a few months ago, with the country deep in the COVID-19 pandemic and hate crimes against Asian Americans on the rise.
Almost immediately, teenagers swooped in for nightly visits, repeatedly ringing the doorbell, yelling and pounding on the door.

One told Haijun Si to “go back to your country.” Another called Si’s wife a pejorative slur used to describe a Chinese person. Some threw rocks.

As Haijun Si and his family celebrated the Lunar New Year this month, the festivities were cut short when several teenagers shouted racial slurs, hurled rocks at the house and repeatedly pounded on the front door of their home in Orange County, Calif.

Crimes against Asian Americans: Community rallies behind Ladera Ranch family targeted by vandals for months

LADERA RANCH, Calif. (KABC) -- Crimes against Asian Americans have seen a sharp rise since the beginning of the pandemic. Neighbors are rallying behind one Orange County family, who have been targeted for months.
Surveillance camera video shows vandals ringing the doorbell at the Ladera Ranch home of Haijun Si and his family in the middle of the night. Sometimes, the culprits pound on the door, throw rocks and shout out racial slurs. The family has been harassed for months.
"This harassment started almost immediately upon them moving here and the fact that it's so clearly tied to their race is deeply upsetting," said Olivia Fu, a Ladera Ranch resident.
