There is very little biographical information currently available for Max Antlers. It is known that he was born in Berlin, Germany. There is some uncertainty when he arrived in the United States, or how long he stayed initially; however, a 1907 article in the New York Times mentions that Antlers had returned to New York City from Paris, where he had been studying with Jules Joseph Lefebvre at the Académie Julian. Born in Germany, artist Max Weyl immigrated to Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1853 and in 1861 moved to Washington, D.C., where he opened a jewelry store. Not trained as an artist, Weyl started painting flowers and still-lifes only as a hobby. Weyl was self-taught and was apparently too modest to display his paintings.
