MAX H. ANTLERS (GERMAN-AMERICAN 1873-1952)

There is very little biographical information currently available for Max Antlers. It is known that he was born in Berlin, Germany. There is some uncertainty when he arrived in the United States, or how long he stayed initially; however, a 1907 article in the New York Times mentions that Antlers had returned to New York City from Paris, where he had been studying with Jules Joseph Lefebvre at the Académie Julian. Max H Antlers also studied at the atelier of Tony Robert-Fleury. . ....

George Thompson Hobbs was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of architect Isaac H. Hobbs. Like his father, he became an architect and in 1871 his father’s firm had changed its name to Isaac H. Hobbs & Son. However, that was not to be his destiny. Born in Germany, artist Max Weyl immigrated to Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 1853 and in 1861 moved to Washington, D.C., where he opened a jewelry store. Not trained as an artist, Weyl started painting flowers and still-lifes only as a hobby. Weyl was self-taught and was apparently too modest to display his paintings. Contemporary Impressionist artist Mark Daly was born on Long Island, New York. As a child Mark Daly s mother taught him drawing and he spent time in the studio of artist Woodhull Young at Huntington Harbor watching the boats and fishermen while listening to Woodhull’s travel stories. More recently Daly has considered plein air landscape painter C.W. Mundy as his mentor. His earlier career included graduating from Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences (Ithaca, NY) and receiving a master s degree from The University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business (Philadelphia).
