âMost of the Chilean organic blueberry harvest is on its way to the US right now" According to the  Organic Produce Network, despite the logistical challenges and delays in the ports of the west coast of the United States in recent months, there is currently a good volume of organic blueberries heading to the country, especially from Chile. âMost of the Chilean mid-season to late-season organic blueberry harvest is on its way right now,â stated Stephen Paul, category manager for stone fruits and blueberries at Homegrown Organic Farms (HGO). âDuring the next four to five weeks, we are going to have more organic blueberries. We anticipate there will be a very good volume until the third week of March,â he added.
“It’s half a year’s rain in three days.” So says James Shanley of Shanley Farms in Morro Bay, CA of the rain and storms that California saw in the latter half of last week. “All of it is very welcome. The recharge this represents is phenomenal,” adds Shanley. “When you get a rain like this, the root systems of the trees have been on irrigation for an inordinate period of time. Now instead of irrigation systems throwing water where it will and the trees and root systems having to develop to mine that particular resource, they can mine other resources in other areas because the water is coming from the sky and going everywhere.”
As one of the largest grower-shippers of organic citrus in California, Homegrown Organic Farms plays an important role in the winter citrus season; a role the company takes very seriously.
