Way in new york state they ve been in sort of a crisis mode for some time. it doesn t it also doesn t hurt andy cuomo that he s replacing a very unpopular governor in david paterson. he s got that low bar of expectation that he gets to exceed. that helps him a little bit. but i got a question for senator sessions. two questions. do you regret not supporting the u.s. senate had a chance to make that deficit commission more of a mandatory a congressional mandate. it could have been done in the united states senate with senators there and had a had real teeth to it rather than just sort of being done on the side. do you regret not supporting that? do you regret that republicans didn t climb aboard on that? i think about as many democrats as republicans voted no. it was a very difficult call for me. i have to admit. i do think, though, that commission, the way it was set up, inevitably would have driven us to significant tax increases ....
Seniors that are getting social security right now aren t going to be affected but if you re 50 or younger, the retirement age is going to go up. the president had an opportunity to help this country reach that. they ve had the majority of both houses in the presidency for the last two years. they ve done nothing but run up debt. and now when we propose to make some cuts, what happens? the chief of staff taunts the republicans, where s your cuts, what are you going to do? they attack people who propose cuts like paul ryan who has a reform plan for the entitlements that goes out 60 years. it s a fabulous plan. they attack him. so i m not happy about it, frankly. it s going to be difficult. we only have one house in congress. so the i m just every newspaper in the country virtually has slammed this budget. and i think rightly so. the president has not led. and it s going to be difficult. ....
But, mika, i d suggest that we re seeing a new construct right now. and that is it s come in the form of chris christie followed by andrew cuomo. did you see the sienna poll? andrew cuomo has been promising to cut like republicans say they re going to cut. his numbers have exploded. i think the guy is in the high 60s, low 70s. it s are in the 70s. andrew cuomo is winning with the chris christie formula. look at this. he has been he s been talking to chris christie. he has been following chris christie s lead. that this is the highest number that sienna has ever registered for a governor, and he has done it by telling new yorkers the truth that every other politician is scared to tell. mika, i suggest we have a new political construct here. well, and i think this also shows that chris christie is not just an aberration. there is a model here. ....
