Micro Focus International has told the London Stock Exchange it intends to appeal judgments resulting from a verdict of a patent infringement against it in the US.
The jury s decision comes less than three years after a complaint was filed in July 2018 [PDF] in the Eastern District of Texas, in which Wapp Tech Limited Partnership and Wapp Tech Corp accused Micro Focus of infringing a trio of patents in the Application Delivery Management (ADM) line, including LoadRunner and Performance Center.
The original complaint shows rumblings kicked off after Micro Focus ingested Hewlett Packard Enterprise s Software division in 2017. LoadRunner and Performance Center were both a part of the deal, which was worth $8.8bn. ....

HPE pledges 25 percent reduction in total cost of ownership for telecom providers with new open RAN solution stack

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Wednesday pledged a 25 percent reduction in total cost of ownership for telecom providers implementing the new HPE GreenLake Open RAN (Radio Access Network) cloud native solution stack.
HPE said the GreenLake pay-per-use platform provides a cost effective path for telecom providers to leverage HPE’s innovative 5G Open RAN stack. The Open RAN solution stack will be available in the second quarter.
“We believe that where telecom companies implement an Open RAN strategy solution versus a proprietary solution they are looking at about a 25 percent reduction in total cost of ownership,” said HPE Senior Vice President Phil Mottram, who took the helm of the new HPE Telecommunications Group in January. “That’s the kind of magnitude of savings that can be driven by a (telecom) operator if they take a more open approach.” ....

Hewlett Packard Enterprise wants a High Court judge to formally consider a damning report which found that Deloitte auditors committed misconduct when they signed off British software firm Autonomy s annual accounts.
If successful, HPE s move would allow Mr Justice Hildyard to take into account the Financial Reporting Council s (FRC) extremely unflattering findings against Deloitte and former auditors Richard Knights and Nigel Mercer, who, the FRC found, wrongfully signed off misleading statements in Autonomy s accounts.
Given that a substantial part of Lynch s High Court defence amounted to Deloitte said it was OK so we did nothing wrong , having the FRC s findings read by the judge could punch a hole through his case. ....

HPE acquires cloud assessment vendor CloudPhysics

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Tuesday added a breakthrough AI-based hybrid cloud assessment tool to its arsenal with the acquisition of CloudPhysics.
The deal provides HPE with a SaaS-based tool that analyses on-premises IT environments and provides quick return on investment recommendations for cloud migrations, application modernisation and infrastructure.
The acquisition of the 10-year-old venture-backed company provides HPE with “highly strategic” software that will “speed up” HPE’s partner-led “go to market” sales engine, said Tom Black (pictured), senior vice president and general manager of HPE’s storage business.
“CloudPhysics is a market-leading platform to do on-premises assessments of a customer’s environment,” said Black, the driving force behind the deal. “It’s all done in software literally in seconds or minutes back to the customer. Some of the largest brands in the industry have been working with CloudPhysics. I like to say that w ....

HPE is getting into the OpenRAN game, with the newly minted Communications Technology Group today launching the OpenRAN Solution Stack, which combines network functionality with a suite of management tools.
The tech, which has support for both 5G and LTE standards, is connected to an orchestration platform, which HPE said allows carriers to manage their estate of towers (as well as the associated network functions and virtual machines running on them) from a single point of contact.
The company has also rolled out a new server to go with it. For the snappily named ProLiant DL110 Gen10 Plus Server, HPE picked Intel s third-gen Xeon Scalable silicon. Unlike a normal rack-mounted server, this has been designed for the relatively shallow boxes affixed to the side of mobile antennas. Four x16 PCIe slots support up to 16 narrow band RRU ....
