The expanded surveillance in the world's most populous democracy has alarmed privacy advocates.

This is in addition to the intervention on the Rs 99 prepaid plans by Vodafone Idea which was expanded to 15 circles in mid-August, the company said.

Vodafone Idea plans to launch converged offerings to compete with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. The company has partnered with You Broadband for mobility, broadband, and content as a unified offering called Vi One in 12 cities. Analysts suggest Vodafone Idea has a better chance of surviving through the first half of 2025-26 without significant fundraising due to improvements in operations.

“We would like to reiterate that (we) continue to have a disproportionate focus to build a digital ecosystem with our partners enabling a differentiated experience for Vi users which will help us drive consumer stickiness as well as providing incremental monetization opportunities,” Vodafone Idea chief executive Akshaya Moondra said in the earnings call.

Vodafone Idea is set to finalize its equity funding talks in the ongoing quarter, followed by additional lending from banks, according to CEO Akshaya Moondra. Moondra revealed that discussions with equity investors have progressed since the last quarter. He also mentioned that one promoter who committed to providing financial support of up to Rs 2,000 crore has yet to inject the funds. However, Moondra clarified that the equity-linked funding being discussed is not dependent on promoter infusion.
