TEL AVIV, Israel, April 19, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- UBQ Materials, developer of the most climate-positive thermoplastic material on the market, today announced that Keter Group, the world's largest resin-based consumer goods company, will incorporate UBQ™ into multiple product lines in its effort to achieve its sustainability goal of incorporating 55 percent recycled content in its manufactured products within five years.
Established in 1948, Keter has long been an industry leader in resin manufacturing and was among the first to implement recycled materials into resin-based consumer goods. Keter products are a mainstay in homes all over the world. Leading the fast-growing outdoor furniture industry valued globally at over $17 billion, Keter operates in 100 countries and has 21 plants in Israel, Europe and North America. CTech – Israeli developer of thermoplastic material UBQ Materials has announced that resin-based consumer goods company Keter Group will incorporate UBQ into multiple product lines for garden furniture. The agreement is in line with the Israeli company’s efforts to achieve its sustainability goal of incorporating 55% of recycled content in its products in the next five years.
“Innovation aimed to halt climate change exists and is readily available, but its ability to impact is dependent on the adoption and implementation across industries,” said Tato Bigio, co-founder and CEO of UBQ Materials. “Continuing to deplete our natural resources is not an option; it is frankly no longer economically or environmentally viable. Through our partnership with Keter, we hope to set an example for industries to recognize sustainable manufacturing as a simple, cost-effective, and necessary choice.”

"By 2025, 55% of our products will be made of recycled plastic," says Keter co-CEO

“We have given ourselves a short-term goal that by 2025 more than half of our raw materials will be made out of recycled materials,” Iftach Sachar, co-CEO and MD Global Marketing, Innovation and Sustainability at Keter Plastic said during an interview as part of Calcalist’s online conference on the circular economy. According to Sachar, the company is already leading the way when it comes to the use of recycled materials in manufacturing, with its current rate of 40% far above that of the competition.
“It is very difficult to manufacture products from recycled raw materials because the materials are hard to work with, but we are answering the challenge and attacking it from the earliest stages of product development and manufacturing process design, so that at the end of the process, we will be able to include as much as possible of the recycled materials into our products. We use 120 tonnes of recycled raw materials and that’s a good starting point relative to our competitors. We will eventually reach a company-wide average of 55% recycled materials, but we already have products that are made out of 100% recycled materials. Some of our garden furniture is made up of 80% recycled materials and some of our packaging is even 100% recycled,” Sachar said.
