history. you can fill in the crisp cold air as we speak. i remember as a kid watching a guy nobody knew by the name of jimmy carter with this very state. not realizing at the time he had actually technically place a second to uncommitted but it was good enough to launch a white house career. that was then. think of all of the election since and the expectations that did not pan out. barack obama was not supposed to win in this lily white state but he did. and all of the others who are expected to do very well and did not. the last three republican winners in the iowa caucuses never went on to actually win the nomination or the white house. that is the thing about original expectations. they don t always pan out. that s it make the caucus date so unpredictable. history has a way of humbling you. many say iowa could do it again. even if it doesn t we will keep you waiting and wondering, and nailbiting. that is iowa.
