FRANKFORT, Ky. - After three days of being passed over, Senate Bill 274 (SB 274), which would allow the City of Corbin to annex into southern Laurel County passed theÂ KentuckyÂ Senate Friday by a vote of 20-12, withÂ two senators passing and not voting.Â Â
Before a vote on the bill could be made, Senator Brandon Storm (R-London) motioned pursuant to Senate Rule 15, that the matter be laid on the clerkâs desk, or temporarily postponed. Storm cited the ongoing litigation between the cities of London and Corbin in Laurel County Circuit Court as a reason to postpone the matter.Â ....

Key West City Manager Veliz accepts FKAA post

Key West City Manager Greg Veliz may not be in that role much longer, as he has agreed to take a senior administrative position with the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority.
On Friday, the FKAA board voted unanimously in its selection of Veliz for the deputy director position at the FKAA. He was among 49 people who applied from around the country and Canada.
âOf the 49 candidates, he was absolutely the best choice, and he will be the best fit,â FKAA board member Cara Higgins said.
Upon being chosen, Veliz told the board he would accept the position, Higgins said. His contract with the city requires him to give the city a 90-day notice, he told the board. ....

We need a stimulus bill, but House churned out a mess

I firmly believe there are American citizens and small businesses suffering as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
And I think Americans deserve a shot in the arm via a stimulus check. I m all for it.
Should we be putting money into getting more Americans vaccinated? Absolutely.
Should we be helping out small businesses that have struggled tremendously for over a year? Yes.
But the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act doesn t just bolster support to battle COVID. As a matter of fact, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell points out the majority of it has very little to do with the virus. ....
