The Russian Bounty Story Erodes

Last June, the Trump-hating reporters who always wanted to underline that then-President Donald Trump was almost traitorously soft on Russia banged a can about a New York Times story headlined "Russia Secretly Offered Afghan Militants Bounties to Kill U.S. Troops, Intelligence Says."
Now the liberal Daily Beast website is offering a jaw-dropping assessment: "It was a huge election-time story that prompted cries of treason. But according to a newly disclosed assessment, Donald Trump might have been right to call it a 'hoax.'"
This story began with anonymous government sources and is now rebutted by anonymous government sources. "The Biden administration announced that U.S. intelligence only had 'low to moderate' confidence in the story after all," it read. "Translated from the jargon of spyworld, that means the intelligence agencies have found the story is, at best, unproven -- and possibly untrue."

No Us deaths in Afghanistan only squandered billions just to keep a nation on its knees.
No one even asks how we will pay for it. They only ask that question when tax payers need help.

The next thing you know, The New York Times, CNN and Axios will uncover news that, as President, Donald Trump paid Taliban and Afghan militants to take out US troops - 'cuz as The Don says, US troops are "losers".
It surely has never occurred to the Western MSM that the Afghans and the Taliban don't target US or other Coalition troops because, as the Iranians found when considering who to take out as revenge for the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani, no-one they find quite matches the status and dignity of Soleimani or of those Afghans and Taliban martyrs who died in skirmishes against the Westerners.

Between a Republic and an Emirate: The Future of Afghanistan

ORF Special Report No. 125, December 2020, Observer Research Foundation.

This special report was written before the 2020 United States presidential elections. Under the incoming Biden administration, the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan is likely to be more gradual and “responsible”, despite the President-elect being in favour of American troops exiting the war-weary country soon. In retrospect, Donald Trump’s insistence on pulling out all US troops from Afghanistan by Christmas 2020 was not misguided, since there is little that such military presence can achieve at this stage of the war. The situation is sealed by some neighbouring nations acting as spoilers in the peace process, impeding American efforts to help bring stability to Afghanistan.
