Meanwhile, B.C. has entered Phase 2 of the immunization program.
B.C. immunization executive lead Dr. Penny Ballem, along with provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, Health Minister Adrian Dix, and Premier John Horgan held a news conference today to announce further details about upcoming vaccinations.

Fraser Health says follow-up testing detected 3 more COVID-19 variant cases in Surrey schools

VANCOUVER --
COVID-19 testing has turned up three additional cases of variants of concern in people associated with Surrey elementary schools where exposures were previously detected.
One person from École Woodward Hill and two people from Surrey Traditional School have tested positive for a variant of concern, Fraser Health announced in a news release Sunday night.
The health authority did not say which variant the individuals had tested positive for, nor did it say whether the people who tested positive were students or staff.
When exposures at the two schools were first announced last week, Surrey schools Supt. Jordan Tinney said both schools had had exposures to the B.1.1.7 variant that originated in the United Kingdom.

COVID-19: No variant spread in schools shows rules work: Minister

Article content
B.C.’s education minister understands parents’ anxiety at news that a highly contagious COVID-19 variant has been detected in seven schools in the Fraser Health region, but says the fact that those infected have not passed it on to others shows that school safety measures are working.
“It’s very good news that the testing that has been done so far has indicated no transmission,” Jennifer Whiteside said during a news briefing on Monday. “What that tells us is that our safety plans are working. Where our safety plans are adhered to, we see very low transmission rates in the schools.”
