because i came out of the super bowl in january of 1988 in san diego. during that week i spent an entire day with him back home in louisiana, after he won that super bowl. that's stigmas there, and the stigma how to deal with the fear factor that they could play. and, think about this, cory. that was 35 years ago that doug williams broke the color barrier, becoming the first black quarterback in the super bowl, and here we are now. which is incredible, but, a lot of it goes back to the money factor. all right? quarterback, the most prominent position, the most expensive position in the national football league. forbes determine just recently the top ten players in the nfl are all quarterbacks. all right? half of those, in the top ten part of the nfl are black quarterbacks. so, again, the financial thing has been a big part of this as well.
named jay schroeder, but joe, gives the great hall of fame coach decided to go with doug for the playoffs and then of course for the super bowl making him the first black quarterback to start to start in a super bowl -- heartedly that was january of 1988. then of course he won the game and became the mvp. heroic -- he banned his knee back. we talked about this earlier. he came out for play and he wanted to fight to get back in the game, when that, came when the mvp award. and doug comes from another era. he comes from a time, laura, and donté stallworth, where our guys were told, if you were a black man, you can play quarterback. or if you play in college, you can't play in the pros. i cheered for a quarterback, as a girl, at the university of toledo, chickalah, who had to go to canadian football league to play quarterback, and yet he was one of the greatest quarterbacks i've ever watched play but at that time my dad told me that they're not gonna let him play quarterback because they do not think that black men have the ability or a or smart enough. it was just pure racism, and i learned that as a young suburban white girl because of
bigger than football. it's bigger than me. >> all right. so, he is putting his entire career in jeopardy, as he says there, to try to address this problem. i want to know what you think, the effect of what he is doing may have on the sport if nothing else, could it force changes to this meaningless rooney rule, toothless rule? >> i'll start with something nobody else is talking about. little quick history here. jimmy "the greek" schneider, okay? jimmy "the greek" snyder was an nfl analyst for cbs back in the day, '70s and '80s. he was huge. in january of 1988, he gets fired. i'll bet you all the people out there when they heard he got fired by cbs, you're going to say, oh, yeah, he got fired was because he said the reason black athletes were so great was because of their big mothers and their big thighs going back to

january of 1987. and then there's bernita sparks, found murdered in april of 1987. debra jackson was 29 years old. found dead in august of 1985. henrietta wright, 35 years old, found dead in august of 1986. lachrica jefferson, found murdered in january of 1988. mary lowe, 26, found dead in 1987. and thomas steele, the only man killed in this string, 36 years old, found shot in the dead. in august of 1986, valley mccorvye. and princess, found as well. what we are hearing from authorities in los angeles, they were african-american women and involved some sort of drug use.
