Musical America In late May, for the first time in 14 months, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will perform before a live audience in Orchestra Hall. “We are truly delighted to welcome audiences back to Symphony Center…. to begin safely sharing the joy of live music with the community again,” said CSO President Jeff Alexander. Over three consecutive weekends between May 27 through June 13, the CSO will offer three distinct programs for brass and percussion, string ensembles, and orchestra, led by conductors Michael Mulcahy, Erina Yashima, and Edo de Waart. The programs will be recorded for possible future release on CSOtv. “Fanfare,” the inaugural program, is scheduled for May 27-30 and will feature music for brass and percussion under the baton of CSO trombonist Michael Mulcahy. The British pianist opens this concert with Busoni’s arrangement of Bach’s D minor Chaconne which was performed by Busoni himself at the opening of the Hall almost 120 years ago. This is followed by the six pieces that make up Liszt’s Consolations S172. Springtime concerts bloom at Morven Garden in Princeton Posted May 02, 2021 Princeton Symphony Orchestra will host Thursday night outdoor concerts at Morven Museum and Garden in Princeton in May.PSO staff Facebook Share The Princeton Symphony Orchestra will present a springtime series of live chamber music concerts at Morven Museum and Garden in Princeton beginning 6 p.m. Thursday, May 6, with “Springtime Strings” showcasing the PSO Strings. On the program will be Jessie Montgomery’s “Strum” and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings.” Outdoor seating will be in marked-off, socially distanced “pods” for up to two people, and masks will be required at all times in keeping with current state health guidelines. / Akiko Fujimoto is the Music Director of the Mid-Texas Symphony, who perform regularly in New Braunfels and Seguin. The Mid-Texas Symphony’s Music Director, Akiko Fujimoto, has one more concert with the ensemble this weekend, but she is already looking forward to the fall. “We hope that [it] will be a great kind of reunion after a really tough year of missing each other and sort of being fragmented,” Fujimoto said by phone recently, referring to what will hopefully be a “normal” schedule of full-sized orchestra concerts with the Mid-Texas Symphony, beginning in September. “We were never able to do anything with our normal 70-person orchestra just because of social distancing on stage, safety issues,” she explained. ....
