Former Texas pitcher Ariana Adams is transferring to Syracuse following four seasons with the Longhorns. After graduating from Texas, Adams is utilizing her extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the pandemic.
Adams went a perfect 11-0 with the Longhorns, finishing with a career earned run average of 2.73. She pitched the most in 2019, starring in 34.2 innings across 12 appearances. In 2021, she was part of a Longhorn pitching group that had a combined 2.58 ERA and recorded 16 shutouts. Texas finished its season at the Stillwater Super Regional before losing a three-game series to Oklahoma State.

McKenzie Clark started Sunday afternoon with a double. Shortly after she reached second, catcher Geana Torres made her way out to the mound to talk with starter Kaia Oliver. Then, Oliver walked Ansley Gilstrap, and pitching coach Michael Steuerwald stopped play again to talk with Oliver and Torres. Neither conversation helped, though. Two batters later, freshman Alia Logoleo hit her fifth home run of the season, quickly sending Syracuse into a 4-0 deficit before it got a chance to bat.

Clemson’s Alia Logoleo was batting a mere .232 heading into Sunday’s game. She had recorded four hits in her last four games, which included her 18th RBI of the season in Saturday’s doubleheader, her first since April 17th.
Syracuse’s starting pitcher, Kaia Oliver, had already allowed one run, a double and two walks in the top of the first inning, with just one out to her name. Logoleo stepped into a pitch right down the middle for a three-run home run crushed over the left field fence.

Virginia Tech’s Kelsey Brown raced home after another low Kaia Oliver pitch escaped catcher Maxine Barnes to score the Hokies’ first run of the game. A fielding error by Barnes and an RBI double by Addy Greene followed, and Syracuse trailed 4-0 before its first chance at bat. It forced head coach Shannon Doepking to bring in freshman Jolie Gustave in relief after Oliver walked the bases loaded to start the game, threw just two strikes on 21 pitches and recorded a career-low one out.

Kaia Oliver threw 21 pitches in game one as a starter. Nineteen of them were balls, two were strikes and two of them were wild pitches. Oliver surrendered four runs and pitched just 0.1 of an inning before being replaced following a career-low of just one out.
First, Oliver allowed Virginia Tech’s fastest player, Kelsey Brown, to walk on just five pitches. Brown then stole second and remained in the game despite being hit on her left leg on Maxine Barnes’ throw home. In the same at-bat Oliver threw her first wild pitch, allowing Brown to take over third before walking Cameron Fagan on the very next pitch on four straight balls.

Saturday, just a day after Syracuse swept Virginia in a doubleheader, the Orange allowed their fourth shutout of the season in a 6-0 loss. Friday’s doubleheader sweep was SU’s first in two weeks, snapping a six-game losing streak. But on Saturday, Virginia (15-28, 10-22 Atlantic Coast) limited SU to just four hits, using a three-run fifth inning to beat the Orange (17-16, 10-13), who sit four spots above the Cavaliers in the current ACC standings.

With Syracuse down 6-1 in the sixth inning, Jolie Gustave replaced starter Alexa Romero to face Florida State outfielder Kiersten Landers. Romero had given up six runs that afternoon — all six coming from five home runs. Landers swung on Gustave’s first pitch of the game and drove the ball beyond the center field fence well into the trees for the Seminoles’ sixth home run of the game.

The final pitch of the day was inside on Toni Martin’s hands. She fought it off, and could only muster a soft popout to Florida State second baseman Devyn Flaherty. It was the last out of a sweep at the hands of the No. 9 Seminoles, who outscored Syracuse 16-3 over two games on Saturday. FSU (29-6, 16-2 Atlantic Coast) took the first game at Skytop Stadium, 7-3, behind six home runs, and capped off the afternoon with a 9-0 win. The Orange (15-13, 8-10) registered just two hits in the second game, and have scored just seven runs over their past four games — all losses.

Syracuse’s nine-game winning streak, its longest since 2018, ended in doubleheader losses to Boston College on Saturday.
The Orange (15-11, 8-8 Atlantic Coast) dropped both games to the Eagles (8-21, 4-13 ACC), falling back to .500 in conference play. Syracuse rotated through each of their four pitchers in a 5-3 loss in the opening game and a 3-1 loss in the second.
Freshman pitchers Lindsey Hendrix and Jolie Gustave split time on the mound in the opening game, allowing three and two runs, respectively. Hendrix gave up three runs in the bottom of the third inning, as the Eagles scored first and jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
