Robert Popper: How we made Friday Night Dinner

“Remembering the time I almost had an aneurism when my dad presented me with a clay sculpture he'd made of my head,” Robert Popper tweeted last Sunday. The sculpture in question has to be seen to be believed: it's like a version of yourself you might meet in a nightmare.
It's also, as it happens, exactly the sort of thing that Martin Goodman, the lovably strange patriarch played by Paul Ritter in Popper's Channel 4 sitcom
Friday Night Dinner, might do. Goodman is a frequently topless (“I’m baking”) hoarder (“they’re collectibles”), who hides roadkill in his freezer so that he can get the corpses stuffed before his wife, Jackie (Tamsin Greig), notices. In the comments below the tweet, someone asked Popper if the head inspired the episode in which Martin paints a terrible portrait of Jackie. No: that was actually inspired by his father painting a terrible painting of his mother.

Friday Night Dinner: 10th Anniversary documentary to air on 28 May after death of Paul Ritter

The air date for Friday Night Dinner's 10th Anniversary Special has been revealed with the one-off documentary set to air on Friday 28th May.
The series, which focused on the middle-class Jewish family The Goodmans while they met for a weekly meal at their home in north London, first debuted on screens in 2011 and has won an army of fans over its six series run.
Much of the show's cast including Tamsin Greig, Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal are expected to appear in the special documentary, which comes just weeks after the death of star Paul Ritter, who played the foul-mouthed dad Martin Goodman.

It's a Sin: Who Plays Carol Carter on the Show? | POPSUGAR Entertainment

It's a Sin producer Russell T Davies.
On
It's a Sin, Oberman plays Carol Carter, a talent agent who seeks to help Ritchie (played by Olly Alexander) get his big break. Set in the 1980s, the show explores the effect of HIV and AIDS on London's West End performers, with Carter being one of the few agents to stand by her clients in their time of need. Speaking to Channel 4 about her role she said, "It's such an important piece of television, I had to be a part of it."
While her character is based on an "amalgam of a few agents," she noted that Carol was actually the name of an agent that Davies knew in real life. On her experience of growing up in the '80s, she explained, "I had a lot of gay friends and knew quite a few people who died from AIDS," making her involvement in the show all the more necessary. In terms of working with Davies on the project, she described it as "Russell's Schindler's List" adding that "if he was put on earth to do one thing, it's to remind them of this time as the mothers and fathers die out. We have to remember what it was like," she told Channel 4.
