Taxi driver Mohit Wadhwa, 37, isolated his wife from her family, beat her, demanded she take out a loan and was verbally abusive during their decade-long marriage.
He was found guilty by a Swindon jury earlier this year of coercive control and assault. Last month, Judge Taylor sent him to prison for three years and seven months.
The judge said: “You isolated your wife from her friends and family and with the latter you made her choose you over them to the extent that she didn’t see her parents between 2008 and 2018. Of course, I will only sentence you for the indicted period for when this law was in force [from 2015], but it is notable that your control was such that her mother never even met her grandson before she sadly passed away. ....

A BISHOP who provided a character reference to a paedophile vicar has been rebuked by the Archbishop of York.
Bishop of Carlisle James Newcome provided the reference for Wiltshire vicar Robert Bailey, who was jailed for more than eight years last September for sexually abusing two girls.
In the wake of the hearing, the Church of England launched a review into whether the bishop had breached official guidelines.
A spokesman for the Church of England said: “Bishop James cooperated fully with the investigation which concluded there were significant errors of judgement in his handling of this matter. ....

A DANGEROUS driver claimed he’d missed probation appointments because his dad was opening his post and his phone was broken.
Julian Drew, 32, was given a community order last October after a police chase that ended when he wedged his Vauxhall Zafira between a horse box and a wall.
On Friday, the judge who sentenced him at Swindon Crown Court ran out of patience.
Revoking the two year community order and sending him into prison for eight months, Judge Peter Crabtree said: “Your record of compliance in this particular case is woeful to say the least. Whatever excuses you have come up with, none of them hold water.” ....
